Short back and sides and a pack of Johnny's for the weekend. Simpler times.

I'd prefer a pack of my own, thanks

No, what is pathetic is that a (thankful) minority of people, albeit a majority in the football world (which is shameful but not surprising) can't seem to see what is actually happening to minorities in the world, even in this day and age.

BLM (the protests rather than the political movement/group) is simply about trying to address systemic racism. Minorities are disadvantaged and that's a fact. I'm sure you'll spout "All lives matter" at me or say that this is political but it isn't. It's about trying to ensure that everyone gets a fair crack at the whip in life. ALM can't be a true statement until BLM (and other affected minorities).

You're happy to cheer on our black players when it suits, but not defend their civil liberties? People with those views may not be racists themselves (and I'm not suggested they all are), but standing idly by and not fighting for equality is what really is pathetic.

If you think the replies you got, from some of the usual suspects, were, shall we say "surprising" then you obviously don't read the news and politics section of this website.

Try it. It is at, the very least, educational.

Do you mean educational in as much as you didn’t realise people may have a different view to you! At least none appear to be written in that “looking down on you” patronising tone you have been known to use

To my miniscule mind, the recent events concerning BLM is highly educational. Whenever it is broadcast on the television, I turn it off and read a book.

Even if you have some issues with the subject in question, surely just switching it off isn’t a very good solution. This would be the same with any topic.

Rather good for my hypertension.

Statues vandalised, statues removed, memorials defaced, the Police response to the BLM thuggery, is just a vignette of matters that have raised my hackles and sent me into foam-flecked fury.

I think it’s helpful to try and see all debates from both sides. Admittedly this can be very difficult as it’s a very emotional time for a lot of people politically. As evidenced by the fact every thread turns to politics (even this one about the West Ham friendly).

Really, we should be talking about the fact Benteke scored. Is it possible to corroborate this in any way??!

So let's just try one time to get the point across

In my nice, organised, reasonably well-off world I see very little friction. The minority groups around me all get along and I don't hear of them getting any real negative effect from being in a minority. I guess most people on here come from a reasonably educated, well heeled and 'safe' environment. If you go probing you will probably find some example of when people have suffered some kind of disadvantage - and for minorities you are probably always a little more worried than for the majority.

Then try talking to those not from your demographic. The difference is stark. Constant problems and issues related partly to race and partly to housing class which often overlaps with race. This particularly affects schooling, housing and employment.

It doesn't take much looking into if you own Mr Google. You just have to know to go looking. So listen to some of your minority friends before writing this stuff off.

In any case, even if it were overblown (which I don't think it is) what's the harm in a regular reminder that we should always seek to be fair to all and make sure everyone has a leg up if they need it?

What’s that got to do with Palace v West Ham?
