What sad news.

Willie Thorne had been battling Leukaemia. I recall paying a visit to his snooker club in Leicester back in the 80s.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends.RIP.

One of the old school alongside's the likes of Tony Meo, Tony Knowles, Ray Reardon, Cliff Thorburn, Bill Werbuinick, Kirk Stevens Etc.
I'm convinced that snooker got particularly popular in the 80s due to the fact that pubs back then used to close at 2.30/3pm, but snooker clubs for some reason were exempt & you could go in them & fill in the time until the pubs would reopen at 6pm. RIP

Not wishing to be confrontational but I would class Reardon as old, old school compared to the likes of Meo, Knowles, Thorburn etc.
