Seems like most debates on here are arguments between the left and right and everyone takes either one side or the other. Is anyone either apolitical or someone in the middle of both?

Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping.

Most people don't neatly fit into left or right boxes really. If you look at the polarisation of the US and the ill fitting arbitrary batches of beliefs people are expected to buy into, it becomes fascicle. There's nothing wrong with engaging your brain instead of giving in to group-think, whether left or right.

There is little about issues such as the environment, business, social issues, healthcare and so on that should demand people hold a specific view, rather than consider them on their merits. Instead some opt for a cultural cointoss and go with an off the shelf outlook. Social media and news media in general provide a biased bubble that fits prejudices and acts as a self confirmation comfort blanket. It does a disservice to the individual and to society.

No, not that I'm not bothered because whatever viewpoint you take will be aligned to one side or the other unless you are particularly diplomatic but even then it would be difficult to maintain an independent stance.

What about people whose views crossover... on some issues they are right, on others left. Sometimes they can see that both sides have valid points and don't choose to side with either but would rather see some kind of understanding develop between the 2 sides.

I don't think modern politics is geared that way though as it seems everyone is ready to disagree and argue all the time whatever the point being made is.

It"s very hard on here not to be labelled if you don"t agree with the "herd", not the arsenal "firm", the majority, you will be called a "lefty", and so the dye is cast, on the bbs i imagine it"s the opposite from what i can gather and if you don2t run with the herd you are a nazi, but good post, i have often thought the same thing, that you have to fall in to one group or the other!

Most people have crossover views, some get brainwashed out of them due to a desperation or need to fit in with a group they are more closely aligned with. I'd say that you're right that modern politics doesn't work that way. Elections are often close though, so there will always be meaningful political clout to independent thought even in the presence of groupthink.

In Sept 85 I went to study A levels at Croydon College. One of the subjects I picked was Government and Politics.
Most of the other students had a grasp of what politics were but I felt out of my depth.
We went on an arranged trip to hear a talk by Enoch Powell.
But he's The Rivers of Blood chap isn't he?
Yes, he is, said our lecturer but I want you all to ignore whatever you've heard about him, wipe the slate clear and listen to what he has to say without prejudice. Which, on reflection, is really good advice.
On the day, I certainly don't remember him saying anything vile. But nor do I remember him saying anything to grasp onto. It was just boring to my 17 year old ears.
I lasted a term then I quit college and got a job at Croydon Job Centre. The one opposite McDonalds, not the Wellesley Road site.
A good septuagenarian friend of mine said to me back in December, "When I was younger, I would've been really excited about tonight's election. But not these days. Whoever wins, you still get Government!"
So, for me, Politics exists to divide us and keep us arguing. It's a smokescreen designed to draw attention away from what The Powers that Be are really up to.
Phew!

Both sides regularly tell me I'm wrong... that must make me neutral, right?

The left think they are right whereas the right know they are right and that the left are wrong about being right. I think this was the main reason the liberal party started.
