I suppose I’d rather beat Bournemouth and lose to Liverpool than draw both matches.

Was gutted last night but feeling better on reflection this morning. Number of factors that made it an especially sore one, firstly us being excellent at Bournemouth and Liverpool being average at Everton hoodwinked me into feeling like we were on for causing an upset. Couple that with them returning to full strength, us having to field a few starters we wouldn't have wanted to and losing our best player in the first few minutes made me feel very sorry for myself.

Guiata was a big miss last night but I think the bigger miss was Benteke. When your game plan is to defend deep and hit Liverpool on the break you need a target man to take the pressure off. Benteke showed against Bournemouth that he was an outlet, when they occasionally put us under pressure. Liverpool are a class act but as soon as I heard he wasn't playing I though we are in trouble. If only he could bang a few goals in as well.

Well that was painful to watch :-( As brilliant as Liverpool were, we were absolutely dreadful. Played far to deep and what is normally our strongest part, our midfield didn’t compete? Ayew didn’t get a look in as our lone striker but like everyone else when he did get the ball he gave it straight away. Townsend was perhaps the worst of them all. How we kept it down to 4 I don’t know. We literally rolled over last night which was an unusual thing to see from us. No one played well. Yes, Liverpool’s goals were good but Ayew making the foul for the first was unnecessary. Not closing them down so that they could fire a thunderbolt was also terrible. As for the record of not having a touch in there half showed how bad we were. I was at Anfield for the 9.0 defeat many years ago and we played much better that night than yesterday. It should have been the same score last night, we got away with it thankfully. Let’s hope it was down to the missing players and that we perform in our next match as we did in the first half at Bournemouth. Last night was embarrassing. Moan over, let’s move on :-)

Not being picky or disagreeing with you, but just to point out that I believe the stat was no touches in the oppo penalty area. I too was at the 0-9 and was actually encouraged by how well the players carried themselves. Unfortunately they played with total naivety.

Liverpool were comfortable but given they were at full strength and Salah and Robertson had been rested it was not a surprise.
