We have had a " highly rated " academy since Moses was a boy. There is a massive rose tinted view on what we actually produce.

Southampton for example seem to have a more consistent output of PL standard talent.

This is a view based on memory rather than data so happy to be proved wrong.

Really good interview with Gary Issott just gone up on the Palace website which sheds a bit of light on the academy past and present. Definitely highlights the progress made with hopefully more to come.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Lets' not forget the Exeter Academy that has produced Ethan Ampadu, Ollie Watkins, Matt Grimes etc.

Furthermore Liam Sercombe,Tom Nichols and George Friend etc also went on to play for clubs higher up the pyramid. Another academy graduate Archie Collins, currently at the club, is being viewed by bigger clubs.

The products of the Crewe academy have included David Platt, Dean Ashton, Danny Murphy, Rob Jones etc etc.

I think it's best not to rave about Crewe's youth academy these days due to the Barry Bennell paedophilia case which afflicted the club during 79-91.

Lewis Grabban is one who springs to mind regarding youngster's not given a chance & making it.
The major point is that younger players will not be given a chance by Roy; Wan Bissaka only got a game because there was no one else at all who could play.
Hopefully one or two will be given some game time in the next few games, but I fear that the £1.9m available per place will mean we concentrate on points after the hit from the coronavirus.

One does not have to relate to the other.

They can be spoken about separately, as Willo did.

According to the tabloids Southampton are in for small windfall after Liverpool's title win due to clauses in 4 of their former players.

Given the discussion is about which youth academies are worth looking at as examples it seems pretty pertinent that during the period Willo was referring to boys were being preyed upon and those in charge (it is claimed) ignored it. It's like saying we should use Harvey Weinstein as an example of how to produce films. Having said that, referring to a youth set-up from over 30 years ago isn't really that relevant anyway, even the ones without paedophiles.

For goodness sake.

All I posted were examples of players from the Crewe academy who went to further themselves at a higher level. This is NOT an opinion but fact.

No it isn't like saying that at all.

As I said, one does not require a discussion of the other and only you have broached that terrible stuff.

We heard a bit of noise from Roy about some youngsters getting a chance. Then we had a bit of talk about Europe, which sets immediate short term targets and usually shelves long term sustainability

Players that have been our biggest success are those that have broken into the first team. At Palace I would guess it roughly equates to a player every 3 seasons. Think it is a good time to get our academy up to cat 1 status in terms of facilities. Hopefully that would give us a better chance to keep our younger players.

Wan bissaka was close to joining Coventry before he got a chance and that's was as much to with circumstance, than desire to promote youth from within the club. He did stand out in the youth set up but was apparently close to leaving. Coventry had identified him, and we were lucky not to lose 50m. I think Richard Shaw was at the club then and had connections with Coventry.

Missed out Dean Moxey from Exeter. A lot of factors come into play as to why they have been successful. Being fan owned in a lower division without much competition from other clubs for youth players all help.

Harim Boateng went there and was successful, now playing for MK Dons. Not sure he’ll ever make it in a premiership or championship club though.

Crewe’s academy should really be praised anymore. Would be like praising all the charity work Jimmy Saville did.

Didn’t Grabban decided to leave a bit prematurely? His chance was coming but he threw his toys out of the pram.

Based on Sunderland til I die, his attitude seemed to stink.
