I agree. Ayew is not an out and out striker. We also need an upgrade big time time on Townsend, he offers absolutely nothing anymore.

Apart from an excellent impersonation of a headless chicken.

Townsend is just too predictable. He has the air of a man trying to prove a point and show that he still has that magic. If I know that he's going to try and cut back in and fire off a left footed screamer then so does the defender.

What I don't understand is why we play with 2 wide men with no centre forward. Ayew is not a target man. If you are going to play without Benteke then you should revert to 4-4-2 with Zaha and Ayew up front together as a floating 2 who can move where they see the space and then have two defensive midfielders (probably Jimmy Mc and Milivojevic) and two creative midfielders who can pass the ball to feet (Riedewald and Meyer). It is pointless trying to hammer the ball in the air or cross from the wings if there is no-one in the middle.

This becomes a plan B, but unfortunately Roy doesn't use a plan B.

I agree with some that Andros is not the player he was. Pierrick deserves a chance to show what he can do if we want some width or some more pace on the pitch.

In the first half I said to my dear wife that I just could not see us scoring from 'Open play'.
Admittedly we had the 'Lion's share' of possession in the second half but did damn all with it.
Ayew looked lost in that central role but Hodgson did nothing to change things.

At least I never had to drive all the way back to the south coast in the dark afterwards!

We can't play like last night for the remaining 6 games or we'll get nothing out of them. Roy must stay proactive throughout and take every 90/95 mins seriously - last night he looked more like a spectator on the sideline. There are still 18 points to play for and we should aim to get at least 9 or 10.

Given our remaining games, I believe that 9 or 10 points is wishful thinking.

all were Very poor yesterday.
Guaita made an uncharacteristic error, perhaps he is someone that needs a run of games? he took a little while to settle in here and displace WH in the first place ?
I was screaming at the tv for Hodgson to put one of The youngsters on just to freshen it up up top. I see pierrick on the bench. What's the point of having these guys on the bench?
We're safe now, 42 points, What have we got to Lose.

A drop down the table costs £1.9 Mill a place at the end of the season.

I can see us getting nothing from any game if we continue to play as we did yesterday.
I suspect we will get some openings for Wilf and co against the better sides where we defend more than attack but a final total of 42 would not surprise me one bit.
We have done incredibly well this season but we cannot pull the same rabbit from the hat again I suspect.
A clearout, playing youngsters and a couple of wily purchases is what is required and Roy is not that man I'm afraid.
Will SP bring someone in despite Roy's new contract - it would be brave but advisable in my opinion purely because I don't see how Roy can do the same again.

thats a very short-term way of looking at these things. we need to Blood youngsters if we have any chance of Progressing as a club.

We lost anyway using the ‘old guard’ so the point remains valid about trying other players now we are safe.
Unfortunately we know that this will not happen as Hodgson trusts only his senior core of players.
He gave a recent interview about involving younger players in the remaining games, which I took to mean making up numbers on the bench as opposed to active participation in matches.
He is the most conservative manage I have ever witnessed in terms of team selection, in game tactical changes and substitutions.
Had there not been an injury crisis I’m convinced AWB would never have got his opportunity.

That was quite a predictable 'home' loss for us.

Burnley get one goal out of essentially a keeper mistake and then just shut up shop and we can't break through them. I feel like I've seen that result at home many times over the past few seasons.

People are right, after the win against Bournemouth there was talk of us in Europe, now two losses later, the balloon has been popped.

We haven't scored enough goals this season and this needs to be addressed. Frustrating to see the same old issues but a safe mid-table finish is still an achievement.
