This is good news indeed. It will, of course take several years before we see any benefit in our first team squad but at least our U23s (poor as they are) and U18s will get to play at a higher level.

This was essential to push the club forwards. Look at the teams in Cat 1/Cat 2 and you could see why we needed this. Well done to the club. Cat 1 status: "Only a small group of football academies are awarded with a Category One status, and not all of them are in the Premier League.Category One status is extremely hard to achieve and takes real commitment from the club. Any football academies that have this status is a show of the quality of the coaching, equipment, facilities and strategic development that you can expect to find.Category One football academies also invest a lot to maintain their status." Cat 1 status also means we get more funding from the PL and youth teams also compete in the "Premier League 2" alongside other Cat 1 clubs, so hopefully the quality of our youth will continue to improve. It also means that Cat 1 clubs can't poach our young players. Cat 1 Cat 2
It's Red and Blue that unites us |

Exactly it gives us a better chance of hoovering up the young talent in South London do they go to Millwall / Charlton Cat 2 or Palace Cat 1? Edited by Badger11 (07 Jul 2020 11.06am)

Needs a massive overhaul let alone continued improvement.

Excellent news. We should now be able to attract better youngsters to the club.

Only way we will see academy players given their chance is when we are back in the Championship
