Why would SP want to do that? To ask GS if his assistant has had any experience at managing a mid-table Premiership club?

I meant to post that Powell was sacked by Charlton, Huddersfield and Southend.
Powell was caretaker at Derby for a couple of games.

At Huddersfield he took over after 5 games with the team in 20th position and that season they finished 16th.The following season he was sacked after 15 games with the team 18th in the table.His Assistant at Huddersfield was Alex Dyer.

Alex Dyer is now managing in Scotland. Hardly a test bed for future Premiership management I like Powell but again a lack of experience has to be an issue. He also has no track record of real success.

Dyer was and is assistant to Steve Clarke for Scotland as well as Kilmarnock boss.

I don't tend to go with the 'experience' as a necessity. Getting Charlton up and playing for England as as much as Southgate had done, or Dyche before he got Burnley up. Wilder got promotion with lower league clubs but he was shown patience by owners

I'd have thought as a assistant to Southgate he has something about him. It's about opportunity or at least giving an opportunity to get an interview?

Having said that, might be a good appointment as a number 2 to be mentored to a top role.
