I think we can all agree our football this season has invariably been awful to watch. Dull, utterly one-dimensional, predictable, turgid football.

Combine that with a 💩 run of results, and performances devoid of passion, and it’s no surprise people are calling for Roy’s departure. The players, and our captain, also need to take responsibility for some pitiful performances.

I hope, for the sake of the club and its football, something changes to rejuvenate the players’ and fans’ passion. I can’t see that happening though with Roy’s brand of football (whether it keeps you in the PL or not).

Camarasa was a sick note with a bad attitude who had his own medical adviser. It is telling that his parent club were loaning him despite struggling in the league.

Meyer isn’t good enough so why would Roy give him a run of games in central midfield when premier league points are so precious ? In fact he failed to impose himself against 10 man Grimsby when played centrally. Similarly poor against Colchester.

Meyer was given a chance at the start of the season and was weak and wasteful when presented with some good openings against Everton and anonymous against Sheffield Utd. He was dropped and we then beat Man Utd and Villa.

The Man U game was a fluke. Even though I would say 3 defencive midfielders would be the correct choice against them. Ayew scoring with our first chance then a sucker punch whilst they were hunting for a winner.

We beat 10 men Aston Villa 1-0 with them having a late goal ruled out by VAR. It wasn't impressive.

Against Everton we left Zaha on the bench. Effectively taking off one attacking option for another. Meyer was kept out by Pickford a couple of times. If he was that bad, then Camerasa was sat on the bench as an unused sub.

He got 10 minutes v Sheffield United.

That Grimsbey game was a Hodgson special harking back to the days when he bored everyone off watching England. The only player who looked half decent that game was Reidewald in the holding midfield position. But its a mystery as to why you'd only play 1 striker against a team who are going to shove everyone behind the ball. Having said that, we did have over 30 shots, it's a bit of a freak occourance. Had an early one gone in it might have been a completely different story.

Backing a manager regardless of performance is just silly - anyone still making out criticisms of Hodgson are unjustified has got their head in the sand... fair enough if you don’t think it warrants a sacking yet, but there are glaring holes which undeniably deserve criticism.

It will be interesting to compare Saints performance v United yesterday with ours... I thought they were excellent on the whole; pressed aggressively and racked up more possession, more shots, more shots on target and more corners than the home side. Also thoroughly entertaining to watch.

Do people consider Southampton’s squad so superior to ours that we couldn’t dream of doing that? Is it so far fetched for us to approach a game like that?

Broadly I agree, but it’s largely irrelevant when looking at a performance like yesterday. Their success came from how they approached the game, not any individual moment/player.
