Hats off to Wigan no drop off in effort there despite Administration

I think they are doing their darndest to finish the season more than 12 points above the bottom three.

I really don't think getting Benteke scoring is that difficult.

Shown by Benteke's first season - all Andros Townsend did that season was hit early crosses and Benteke nearly got 20 goals.

whaaaattt???? so much wrong in a single post. He didn't even nearly hit 20. He hit 15, 2 of which were penalties, So he hit 13, some against Championship opposition.

He hasn't hit since. Townsend didn't just throw balls in. The phrase "all Townsend did..."
wtf?? More like "all Benteke did was to put in some crosses when he was in the box".

Benteke is a lost case, has lost much of his young years' pace. Should have been sold a long time ago. There was a time when he could have been swapped with Batshuayi from Chelsea. Nobody in that topic listened to me then and people who kept believing in Benteke just as you do now insulted me.

This wasn't just a rumour, Antonio Conte has his fixated ideas. The man wanted Benteke!! He actually wanted him before, in 2017:

Don’t worry he has played his last game for us.

Dyche would do for me. We should have got him in 4 seasons ago.

I would love us to talk to Julian Naglesmann, just see if he may want to take the reigns.Imagine the football, advanced playing.Would suit Max,and we could be the team to watch.I know he has Leipzig up there, but putting the feelers out may get us an amazing manager.

He hit 17 (2 in the cup), which is nearly 20.

Not knocking Townsend at all, think he's been one of ur strongest players over the past few years. Allardyce and Pardew gave Townsend the instruction to get crosses in early, and he did it well, it got us goals. It was exactly what we needed.

If you watch his goals from that season, they're predominantly from crosses

[Link]

*That season, we put in the 2nd most crosses of any club in the Premier League. So Benteke scored.*

*Since then we've been 13th, 18th, 18th, 18th for crosses. Therefore, he hasn't scored.*

Stats here - [Link]

His biggest threat is undoubtedly with his head. Our current setup is the equivalent of playing long ball to Dwight Gayle.

I'm not saying he's still a 15+ goal a season striker as he was for many years - his injury record alone stops him being that. Point is, we can't set up the team not to play to his strengths and expect him to consistently deliver goals.

26th January 2010 - Enter Administration
2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

What's wih the Sean Dyche love on this board??

His team plays lousy football.

His purchased players are of mediocre quality at best.

If these would be his signings for rebuilding a team like Palace and this iwnhis vision, then NO, THANKS.

The bit I don't get at all is that, yes I get a manager gives you instructions on how he wants to play and what he wants you to do, BUT...if you're Townsend or Zaha or whoever, you're not a robot. Surely if you see the opportunity to cross, you cross?

I can't believe that footballers just blindly follow instructions, I mean half of them were out seeing brasses in the middle of lockdown.

A change in system should not result in almost a complete reversal in the amount of crosses we put in, we still line up in some variance of 4-3-3 and when Zaha and Townsend make up 2 of that forward 3, you'd expect them to put the ball in the box more than they do. I can't see them running to the byline and just before seeing Benteke unmarked in the 6 yard box stopping themselves and think 'better not, the boss wants me to turn back on myself and play it behind me.'

But with the right-footed Zaha on the left and the left-footed Andros on the right they aren't going to cross with their weaker foot! They are forever wanting to turn inside. Townsend still thinks he can hit his left foot swervers but the oppos are more than wise to that and he doesn't seem to have the guile he used to. His worldie against Citeh was a once-in-a-lifetime goal he's unlikely to repeat.

He has indeed signed another year contract but I reckon he will be gone soon.

He is very intelligent and capable though. I don't know how to describe this....he is very strong and sane. He speaks with great rapidity and has lived a very sportive life. He looks like a wrestler, kind of like Arnold when he became Governor of California.

He is not the Roy Hodgson old looking type.

It's different for people. Age is just a number. Some people age faster, Lucescu ages very slow.

And again...that other proposition,Ladislau Boloni is realy good too and a bit younger.

Is he too fat though?

Jackson.. Wan Bissaka.... Sansom.. Nicholas.. Cannon.. Guehi.... Zaha... Thomas.. Byrne... Holton.. Rogers.. that should do it..
