You could have written this 2 seasons ago and it would have had as much validity, in the sense that I thought Roy was brought in to ensure a solid base from which to rebuild. Unfortunately signings like McCarthy and Sorloth has me thinking that there remains a lot to be done. I'm not convinced Roy is the man to do it.

I perfectly understand your feelings but as far the team is concerned, Royhas asked reinforcement many times and has not been supported by the board. The team squad in the main was not his, in that respect it is full of previous managers choices. I do believe wrongly or rightly that the balance of the current squad means he can only play a certain way and sadly some players Riedewald and Meyer for example have not been been given a fair chance for that reason. We need a good transfer window, hopefully smartly spent like Sheffield United Who spent 62mil very smartly strengthening their team when they were promoted plus some good loan players that has given them a very talented squad built on a modest budget by today’s standards. Right now is the wrong time to change with the season only weeks away. The other problem is what talented manager who is available would want the job with this current squad we have available and a board who want out and will not invest in team development.

The irony being that if Roy did have access to a modest transfer kitty and found 3 or 4 decent players, surely any new manager coming in would have suggestions as to the type of players he would like to bring in too. Given that Roy has a 12 month contract extension I can't see that it would make much sense to hand him a kitty if the idea is to bring someone new in in 12 months time.

We need 4/5 new players right now, we cannot risk another season scoring only 0.85 goals per game otherwise we will be relegated and that will have a serious outcome on the future of the club.

No doubt. We've desperately needed a right back since the departure of AWB, instead another defensive midfielder is brought in. Duh.

1. The new season is unlikely to start before the second weekend in September - not as long a break as normal but there will be seven or so weeks between the old and the new if the rumours are true.
2. Given our recent transfer history, can we expect any serious dealings this summer? With what money? IN other words, why would a talented manager want to come to us in a year's time if he isn't prepared to come now?

I’m afraid prior to Roy our record with managers was pretty poor and several walked away because they could not secure funds for investment in the team. We need a year to improve the squad with some smart additions. The board will have to do something on the team investment front, if they do not then the value of the club will drop significantly because of lost revenue as we will almost certainly go down. The job of finding a Manager will take time if they are any good as that person would currently be in a job elsewhere. Anyone available right now would probably have already failed elsewhere and is struggling to find a job. We do not want another FdV fiasco.

What quality player in their right mind would go to Palace and play Roys Brand "Plan A". Thats why no ones been coming. What any MOD for a snapshot of which team they could choose and on the current basis very few would come our way unless a top player at end of career like the excellent Cahill, old no value but for Palace, excellent. Ayew (im so pleased he did, where would be now with goals) was lost at Swansea, we offered him a chance and way out...
Promises maybe but that comes down to a player to come to Palace/move house & family to choose whether they wanted to come.. time to get real... they didnt choose Palace...

If this was happening in April/May then possibly this would happen, but with the turnaround to the new season likely to be very short unless we have a new manager lined up and ready to go it could prove costly to let Roy leave.

Personally I think he was let down with promises of new players that never materialised and given what he had available to him it is a great accomplishment that we were effectively safe with almost a quarter of the season left to play. Ayew has attributed his personal turnaround to Roy so I wouldn't be so sure that players don't want to play for him. I also imagine he had a hand in convincing Cahill to come. On the flips side the football has been depressing at times and our one usually reliably entertaining player has put his magic set away for reasons only known to himself.

Personally I wouldn't be devastated if he left but I would also be fine with him staying, especially if we actually sign a few quality players (I think that is more important than the manager right now).

We're at a crossroads and could do with making a change, else it's stagnation territory. On the other hand though, for many, Roy has done enough to stay on. Lots of posts predicting he's on his way out but I can't see it myself.

Our players really show no interest playing for Roys negative football any more. its out of date...... in the premier league.

What right minded unless desperate new player what to play for Roy... I believe that why we fail in recruitment. hence move to retirement Roy. Maybe Bring in a duo that can work together..... there are always managers available...
can you imagine how hard it would be based on Roys survival football for a new manager was to come in end of next season, that whether we survive or get relegated. I suppose some are already thinking Warnock/Hollaway or Pulis are available lol

Warnock seems to be achieving his objective and saving 'Brough and will probably be asked to stay and he'll get far more support from the board there than he would with us.
