I thought Mitchell, for example, looked fantastic when he came on the other night. I'd love to see him given a chance as I've had doubts about PVA for a long time.

We have Riedewald who won player of the month when given a chance but was then dropped. Meyer who could be a solution to our dire lack of creativity but is a perennial bench warmer. We had Sorloth who was given 830 minutes to prove himself before being sent to Turkey where he has shown himself to be very good after all.

We have and have had options but Roy doesn't want to use them. It's almost like Mourinho-esque stubborn-ness to prove a point.

I think it’s wishful thinking . He has given chances recently to two youngsters neither did more than not let themselves down. No reason to not give both more time, but nothing to suggest they could turn us into a free flowing unit in the top half. Of the Premier. Meyer, and Riedewald have both had many chances to claim a permanent spot , the fact is they don’t, and they rarely if ever change the course of games when they come on as subs. The truth is Palace don’t have the depth of quality in the squad to risk playing open attacking football except in limited spells without accepting they dont do it well enough to survive in this division. It’s not kids or tryers we need. It’s Quality ,and it would seem it cost more than we can afford. All any manager can do in these circumstances is make sure we get the magic forty points, and Roy does that almost nailed on.

We all want to feel we are moving forward. After 7 years in the Premiership I personally feel we are not much safer from relegation today than we were in year one. The squad is aging and (up to now at least) there has not been anywhere near enough investment/reinvestment in the playing squad. Our first 11 are good, our squad depth is the weakest in the division.
Playing devils advocate I think people want to see us become stronger year on year and many of us see the club scraping survival on a minimum spend (almost waiting to get caught out) and using safe pair of hands Roy to keep us up.

That sums it up. The question for the Roy, knockers is , in the circumstances why get rid of the safe hands, whilst everything else is not going to change in a hurry?

Regarding the players you've mentioned:
1. Mitchell looked OK. He wasn't on long enough to look 'fantastic' imo. He does, though, deserve the opportunity to show he can do the job at LB. I'm not convinced he'll get it, though, as Roy may well start with Jairo or Schlupp in that position before moving them further forward late on (when we're chasing the game) with Mitchell then coming on. I'd like to be proved wrong.
2. I agree re Jairo. He has a lot of quality and can only get better. I think Roy will use him in both the remaining games at some point
3. Meyer has a lot of skill but is easily pushed of the ball. He has a tendency to lose the ball in unexpected circumstances. I like the player but I don't think he fits into Roy's plan A system
4. Sorloth never looked the part but then never got the kind of service that a big centre forward like him needs. He probably also needed more time to adjust to the speed of the Prem. However, he's gone now so he's history.

As for Roy and his stubbornness, I, too get frustrated with his selections at times BUT for most of this season his system worked for us to achieve the no.1 priority - safety. Much of our recent form results from a number of factors including injuries to our first choice central defenders, frequency of games with a limited and aged squad and lack of real options on the bench, not to mention some poor individual and team performances.

Re meyer and Roy's plan A.
That is probably why he looks as basic as he does.
If players pushed up taking the opposition midfield with them maybe meyer would have a bit more room and time to play a pass or two. A bit like 3 on wilf every game as the defence have no one else to worry about. Plan A works but f*** me it's boring as hell most times.

No club, after 7/8 season's in the prem, with like the 10th highest wage bill in Europe, be happy just to survive.

That mentality is ridiculous.

No supporter, in their right mind should be happy with the club to continue making transfer mistakes, racking up debt, selling youth off to reduce the bills.

No supporter would enjoy tactics where the same players are getting fatigue, making mistakes - youth being ignored and the squad not being rotated, even when nothing to play for.

Supporters, naturally, should worry that their squad is the oldest in the league with no real infrastructure in place, albeit youth academy or a scouting network to replace, let alone cash.

Also, supporters, naturally should be wondering why there is no money to invest - as above.

So whilst many of us where there, alongside you that May - we were watching youth players Morrison, Mullins, Thomson, Carlisle, Evans. With work horse/Fan favs Riihilahti, Freedman and Austin.

We saw a team playing for the badge... playing for the fans..

MASSIVE DIFFERENCE

Vaibow, first of all , our transfers have not been bad , think back , Chamakh, puncheon, Gayle , mcarthur, Kelly Ledley, Cahill,Sakho, Benteke (first season) Ayew , Guaita, Schlupp , milivojevic , van aanholt, are we going back to when CPFC2010 took over??? Then include Ward JedinAk and all the others that got us promoted , all for small fees apart from benteke and sakho , they are not transfer mistakes !!! In my opinion these have kept us up and got us up !!! People forget, a few bad results and that’s it,...... manager out , we are cr@p etc etc , it’s boring now , support the team, the club, and next year , just like this year and the last we will be safe and we will pull of a surprise (Roy masterclass) and everyone will be happy again ,

Also , going back to your quote of no team in the prem should be worried about surviving is absolute ludicrous , as I’ve said before , there is only 6 teams in that division who don’t have to worry , the rest will always look over their shoulder , the ones that don’t worry are Liverpool , Man City , Man Utd , Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham , and apart from that everyone else will always have an eye out ,

End of

He didn't say that we shouldn't be worried about he surviving, he said we shouldn't be happy just to survive. Those are two completely different things.

Completely agree with you. There's been no progress, our playing style is awful and, worst of all, in recent weeks no passion. The age of the squad is a massive concern and as it goes up yet another year we'll just get slower and more injury prine. Serious investment needed which obviously won't come.

Agree with all of this but would add that both Riedewald and Meyer look slower than the 30 yr old players so many want them to replace.

The pressure to stay in the premier league has lead us to have had too many changes in manager over the last few years. Our squad must be littered with players who were chosen by different managers to play in different systems. Should we have a club identity of the style that we want to play and only employ managers will play that way and recruit players likewise. We are not a team at the moment, we have 11 players pulling in different directions, if we had an identity I think that we would be able to attract players easier because at the moment it is clear that players who have joined in the last few years have not improved.

Sorry , I had had a beer and yes it’s seems I got carried away with a. Few things however , I still stand by the fact that every team outside the top 6 should always breathe a sigh of relief for staying in the league, some teams will have more ambition than others, say Everton as they have a bigger budget and are a bigger club. Until we have huge investment I will be happy to just survive.
You also said transfer mistakes, overall i believe our transfers have been good for small money , and in my opinion , makes it all that sweeter staying in the league having spent less,
