I read an interview with him where he was asked if was the ‘end of a chapter ‘ for him at Palace and he replied that he thought it was.
Hodgson also stated recently there was no possibility of bringing him back as it was a 2 year loan.
I think this ship has sailed.

There were probably only one or two people left who were willing to give him a chance by the time he left. Ray Lewington could be heard in games telling him how to play football and there were few if any signs he could make it in the PL aside from his height and strength. From many of the goals I've seen on YouTube he is up against vastly inferior defences who give him acres of space to operate, but in fairness he's taken his chances. I find the notion that he is now all of a sudden a 20m+ striker somewhat ludicrous, but then that is the world we live in, and we did pay 9m for him after a good season in Denmark.

In hindsight we shouldn't have included the transfer option or made the loan deal for 2 years, but then a year ago most fans were ready to give him away for free and the idea of getting 5m would have been well received. One swallow doesn't make a summer, but I am curious to see whether he proves most of us wrong and turns out to be a top striker. If he does then maybe some people owe Roy an apology as it seemed he had a hand in the deal.

Bottom line is naive and incompetent deal

Like Meyer and Reidewald he was never given much chance with us. His one 'goal' away to Chelsea was disallowed for no good reason.

The whole situation begs these questions:
1. Why did we sign him ?
2. If we loan him out and give that club the opportunity to buy him at less than we paid - was that sensible ?
3. Why is the loan period so extended?
4. It's by no means certain but IF another club comes in for him what is our price? Do we get just our stated price and do the Turks take anything above that?
5. Is there some method in the board's madness ?

Freeman, as DOF, should answer all these questions as it falls within his area of responsibility and Parish should explain why he signed them off!

I thought he was decent but like Benteke we don't seem to create much for our out and our strikers.

We wrote off Murray. I think the club needs to show patience when signing players and managers from abroad and understand that a failure is as much our fault.

Yep, this info was available some time ago. The worst thing about it is, even if they can’t afford to buy him, then provided they have a deal with another club already agreed, they can probably borrow the purchase money to complete the deal with us. It looks like a poorly structured deal from start to finish for Palace, because had Sorloth tanked they would have made sure he didn’t play 50% of games and shipped him back to us. We are the only losers in this.

Does seem to be a deal not stacked in our favour.
I suppose it relates to a question of supply and demand , and at the time of the deal there was probably not a great demand for Sorloth’s services.
I have to confess I came away from games where he featured for Palace (admittedly few) thinking I could do better and I’m in my sixties.
He didn’t seem to have a football brain and despite his size he didn’t appear to be able to compete for an aerial ball.
Perhaps it’s harsh to make early judgements.
If he turns out to be a gem we won’t be the first to make mistakes.
Chelsea let De Bruyne and Salah go after all.

I think I posted on another thread about Sorloth but I will add it here as its relevant.

At the time we bought Sorloth it was a choice between him and Jordy Hugill for a 8 to 10mill fee. Hugill actually came down to Palace and discussed terms but the spammers hijacked the deal so we went for Sorloth. Both were considered a risk and were speculative gambles. Personally I think we got the better of the two deals. Hugill has tanked at West Ham and tried to come back home to reki due his career with boro but that didn't really rejuvenate it and he was not a complete regular for boro on loan. Now at QPR and doing better but is unlikely to recuperate anything like the 10mill West Ham paid for him. I think we paid 8 mill for Sorloth. Who struggled and we all saw it and pretty much everyone thought getting him out the club in any capacity was the best thing to do at ghd time. £750,000 loan fee and another 6mill to buy majes for just a 1.25mill loss. Prob acceptable as it was worth a punt. Its only now that he has done well in Turkey peolke are saying its bad. Real case of 20/20 hindsight. And tbh maybe it was never got g to work for him here and he is just better suited to his football in Turkey. It happens.

Was the £12m that was mentioned on purchase of Sorloth a performance related figure then? I’ve seen so many values I’ve lost track of what we paid for him.
