There is that tiny bit of hope that given the circumstances we might be pushed into making an early move. Given the number of players in recent times who have said they've been hampered by the lack of a pre-season (Meyer and Ayew come to mind) you would hope we might actually change our tactic this time around. Also, if we got Eze in quickly then the pressure is off with regard to Wilf as we would have a replacement flair player before clubs get a sight of a big bank balance (the club claimed this hampered their efforts to get an AWB replacement after he was sold). We could then look to add another winger if and when Wilf is sold, but without a gun to our head. Like Sarr and Saint-Maxim last summer, it just feels like this is a player that would greatly strengthen us going forward. We have enough workmen in the squad to allow for one or two players who might not always pull their weight in terms of effort, but who can make the difference when it matters. Sign him. Now. Please. I think this deal ticks boxes in a few different scenarios, if we can get him. We are in need of a goalscorer but these come at a premium. In reality we would have to spend around 30 mill for one (whether that be Watkkins, Edoard etc). If we sign Eze it would add another forward to our squad that as a previous poster has said could be a replacement for Wilf or if he stays could operate as another winger and free Ayew to operate as a striker. So, although it wouldn't be popular with supporters signing Eze for 20mill could be a way we reduce the need and pressure to sign a striker or maybe be more willing to get one on loan. He did come on as a sub in an attacking left side role when we played them in a friendly a few years before we signed him. But I agree that he did play as a DM for the season before he signed for us and I also thought he was gonna play a deeper, Cabaye like role. Led the stats for most interceptions made

I've heard we're definitely in for him but Dougie Freedman is really difficult to deal with. Some strong expletives were used to describe him, which doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
