We've pretty much got a new striker every transfer window.

Last window - Tosun on loan who BFS wanted to spend £25m on as he was the top scorer in Turkey. Whilst we were happy to sent out Wickham which was inexplicable as far as I was concerned.

Then Ayew, Batshuayi, Ayew (loan), Sorloth, Benteke, Wickham, Campbell, Adebayor, Remy, Chemakh, Sonogo, Gayle, Jerome.

The most successful being Benteke when we played to his strenght. Clearly not a panic buy as we spent the whole summer negotiating the fee.

Would be nice if we tried to set the team up to the players strengths.

In the mean time. We've just got to keep hunting to unearth the next goalscorer. In recent history, that's relied more on luck than throwing cash around (Murray, Johnson, Morrison, Jansen, Armstrong, Wright vs Kuqi, Akinbuyi, Gabiadini)

You was doing alright until you mentioned those two cvnts

Serious question ,when we know whats required the answer may be easier

Given that we have been in the top division for a number of years one would argue we are an established Premier League club......until we get relegated. We all know that apart from the top 6 plus Everton every other club will at some point will go down. The likes of Leicester and Wolves are doing very well at the moment, but they could easily fall on hard times with a change of ownership. Its just the way it is.

is it anything to do with our 'personality', should we be 'proud of our identity' as Nuno Espirito Santo has said he is about Wolves? It's a sign of progress that it's the foreign coaches who talk boll*x these days. We need more confiden'

We are an established PL club but the term itself is illusory, as we could get relegated along with a dozen or more other clubs.

The PL is simply the domain of the super rich and is run for them and by them.

If there was a handicap system that equalised the chances then that would be different.

I am disenchanted with the PL and football in general, particularly with remote decision making by dubious VAR.

Will people will automatically go back I think not and it is a real surprise to me people are talking up transfer deals in the current crisis.

Got to agree here. VAR and its hairline decisions is absolutely a farce. It seems as if things are going to carry on in the same vain

Man Utd seemed to benefit by the most penalties and Bournemouth were effectively relegated by VAR

It's now 10 years on. He's dined out on that long enough.

Even Churchill didn't last that long after being the country's 'saviour'.

My point was simply to question what seemed to be a poster's statement that SP wasn't our saviour 10 years ago, when in my book he clearly was.

What SP has done in recent years is an entirely different matter.

No I was saying exactly that point. Yes he saved - along with others - the club. But that was a long time ago. For some that renders him untouchable even after all these years.

I do not think past performance is the right way to judge the current predicament.

I do not think past performance is the right way to judge the current predicament.

Everyone supporting Roy is judging him on his past performance (at Palace - not anywhere else) and saying we can keep him.

Finding a decent chairman is harder than finding a decent striker or manager. It's easy for fans to critise by just saying that Parish should spend more money. It's much easier spend other peoples money that your own. They should be judged over a number of years, not just one or two seasons.

He's taken the club from around 40th ish in the country to 15th ish, consistently with a small ground and low revenue. Burnley are the only club in with less rescources than us that consistently finish higher.

He's made mistakes, and generally come clean about them, taking on accountability. Hodgson always seems to have an excuse.

We went up with Cardiff, Hull, and Watford. Their chairmen all threw money at the club and look were they are now. Over a 10 year period we have consistently been run more efficiently and sustainably than pretty much any club of our size. Throw Brighton, QPR, Fulham, Newcastle, Leeds etc into the same mix, more backing, less success.

Meanwhile, we now have CAT 1 academy and a DoF who seems to be bringing in young tallent for the future at bargin basement prices games.

Some more food for thought, with 1 point and 3 goals in 8 games, any other manager would have been sacked. Parish seems to be sticking with him, yet the people who support Hodgson are blaming Parish for everything. Without a patient chairman who puts the long term future of the club above anything, Hodgeson wouldn't be here.

A compelling argument save the bit about Dougie. If you look at other clubs who find great youngsters, they are normally in the team and playing because they are that good. I know the counter argument to this (Roy wouldn't play them anyway), but I see a lot of average youngsters at our club at the moment who might make the grade, rather than being the next AWB or Zaha. I could of course be proved totally wrong and he has it all under control, but I'm not convinced.

Thank heavens for some optimism, jeeagles! And as for our academy, how many Zahas and AWBs should we be expecting? It's unrealistic to hope for more than 1 or 2 every 5-7 years, isn't it? Given that the EPL pool consists of players from all over the globe, producing players who can simply earn a spot on a EPL squad is good work. Many posters seem to assume that Palace should be succeeding like a top-10 team when in fact there are really only 6-7 top-10 teams!

Southampton and Brentford and to an extent QPR seem to be able to find some decent young ones without too much trouble and their model of development and moving players on at a big profit is far better than we have achieved in 25 years with the exception of Zaha, AWB and Bolasie.

Good players don’t necessarily need to come from the academy either. It’s all about purchasing wisely from European and Home country lower leagues and I don’t see massive amounts of that going on at our club.

I just hope that the investment in the academy will change this but I’m not convinced we have the right scouting network in place.
