Buy british then and stop moaning. You do have a choice!!

Where are the left moaning about chickens hanging upside down having their throats slit !!

TBF Danny, this poster has commented several times regarding the mis-treatment of animals, I have had several conversations with him about animal welfare.
FWIW I think the conditions we keep animals in is abhorrent but just my opinion

Chlorine is a mega-poison. But did you know that the water that comes out of your taps has been chlorinated ? Chlorine is used to sanitise the water in the cleaning process, but is removed before it goes into the supply chain.

The main concern with chlorinated chicken (from the USA) is that it has the potential to be a 'catch-all' at the final phase of distribution, where animal welfare could be given a lower priority.

Steroids in cow feed in the USA to increase productivity is a different issue, but just as important. Just google what happened with DDT when the world launched an anti-malaria solution.

Indeed our tap water tastes horrible, only drink it boiloed in tea or coffee. Lidls bottled water much nicer!

Agreed. The OP to be fair to him was not making any political point.

I admire him for these posts, animal welfare is as you say, abhorrent, and we all need to think about our own actions.

People tend to chant the " chlorinated chicken " mantra without having any idea of what it means.

Americans don't wake every morning to the sound of trucks taking away the thousands of people who have died from eating chicken.

"Why is it used in the US?
To help manage pathogens like salmonella and campylobacter and protect consumers from infections.

According to a report from the Adam Smith Institute (which argues in favour of allowing PRTs), “immersing poultry meat in chlorine dioxide solution of the strength used in the United States reduces prevalence of salmonella from 14% in controls to 2%. EU chicken samples typically have 15-20% salmonella.”

[Link]

So in essence, your US chicken is seven times safer than EU chicken for salmonella.

The same EU that had the horse meat scandal etc etc

The animal welfare argument doesn't hold much for me, chickens were invented to be eaten.

Bags of salad are chlorine washed I don't hear any complaints about that.

The EU report that rejected this practice was blatant protectionism even the report had to admit that the chlorine wash is safe.

The reason they gave for rejecting it was that abattoir workers might become lazy with hygiene standards assuming the wash would solve everything.

So this was a BS answer to stop the US competing with EU farmers. What would be more relevant is the quality and quantity of abattoir inspections and antibiotics routinely given to us animals.

As long as there is proper food labeling I'm fine with this you pays your money....

Typical anti-French, 100 years war, Agincourt, Waterloo comment. Snails perfectly acceptable, just a bit chewy and taste like bogies. Which I used to enjoy in my nose picking days of yesteryear.
If you don't like my post, I surrender. I have the white flag just in case.

Thank for your surrender offer. I had no anti-French thoughts when I posted - and have none now. Prefer to buy enough snails for a meal rather than harvesting the odd one or two out of salad items.

Goodness knows where you get your data.

I have checked multiple sources on the relative rates of infection from food based bacteria over the past four years. The USA is considerably less safe than the UK. It relies on chlorine instead of excellence in food production. Less safe, poorer quality and poorer lives for the animals. A race to the bottom for super cheap food.
