It’s effectively an interest free loan, not funding a gap, although yes the savings on interest is a free bit of a fund.

I actually just don’t want to go into a 4,000 only crowd anyway so handing over that money is even more pointless to then try and sell the 6 tickets. Someone else will go instead of me and I’ll get a season ticket for 21-22 probably. That is unless they make it difficult for us lapsed for one season fans. If they do that it might be the final straw for a lot and be the worst business decision Parish has ever made. It could start off a bad sequence of events if he’s not careful. He’s got too carried away thinking we aren’t as clued up and as sharp as he is.

Whichever way you look at it, it's money in the bank which would not have been there had Parish gone down a different path. There is a gap because the club usually start selling season tickets well in advance of an upcoming season.

In ' normal ' times, that income stream would have been there much earlier in the year.

I opted for the partial refund from last season but cannot see anyway I can use this to fund this year's season ticket! Can anyone help?

I spent 1 hour 45 minutes waiting to talk to box office yesterday. I needed to talk to them as our family's three season tickets were not linked (they were last year). Person I spoke to said she would like them on my site. I rang off - and tickets are still not linked. So another long wait in prospect.
Useless!

I got turned down for the instalment plan - I’ve not been refused credit for years so christ knows what criteria they’re using. But how does using a risk averse lender to finance ordinary fans’ season tickets make any sense? And now I’ve got a refusal on my credit record. Cheers for that Parish.

Fair point, but there are 2 billionaire major shareholders and instead of filling the gap temporarily they’re using money from normal people. If these billionaires did fund the gap I wonder if they charge interest. I didn’t intend to go to a quarter full stadium anyway so my decision is easy.

The key will be how they handle 21-22 priority for season ticket seats. If they stitch up people who’ve had a year off into general sale when there haven’t been any new season ticket holders in 20-21 then they’ll be making a very bad mistake.

Agreed.

Overall I would prefer to give this season a miss but would like to resume ( assuming it's possible by then ) with my season ticket the year after.

Popped to the ticket office earlier and paid the £200 to save my sons ST for 21/22 season, he would not cope with the change, with no issues therefore my carers seat is also saved.

I have also taken out a Gold membership for myself to protect my points and give me a chance to get in the ballot to see some games this season, I was Silver membership for the last 3 years and had an individual ST for 17 years before that so have earned the chance, but they are not doing silver this year

If I get back in 21/22 then so be it, they have confirmed my £200 will be refunded if I don't renew then.

Best of luck to each and every one of you whatever decisions you made / make.

Would you lose your Parish points if your season ticket lapsed for a year? Surely your account would still be open so that you Could buy match day tickets (if available) and merchandise.

Glad people agreed with my interest free loan comment.
Why is it Liverpool and Fulham [and I suspect a few more] are suspending season tickets and selling for each match.

I am so fed up with the club treating fans with contempt and the club still want us spend £200 just to reserve our seat for next season! And all this after being moved from Block E last years, no sign of any new main stand, no real work done in Holmesdale concourse [nor Aw as I understand it] all seems one way to me!

After 40 years that's it I wont renew and will take my chances for the 21/22 season.

See below for text of an email sent to the Club by the Crystal Palace Supporters Trust

We are writing to you to set out the position of the Crystal Palace Supporters Trust on the Season ticket provision for this year.

We appreciate that the corona virus pandemic has made it difficult for football clubs and that there are undoubtedly business considerations that need to be taken into account but we are extremely concerned with the current offering that has been made to existing and potential Season ticket holders for the following reasons:-

1. Renewal of Existing Season Tickets.

a. Asking fans to pay the full price of a 17 game Season ticket upfront and only refunding the money at the end (or asking it to be rolled over into the following year’s Season ticket purchase) is deeply unfair. You are asking fans to effectively lend money to the club until the end of the season. You know that fans will not be able to attend every game but are taking money for games that you will not be able to give them tickets for. This is at a time when a lot of fans find themselves either on reduced income or out of work entirely

b. The process of how allocations will work, what notice fans will be given, and what arrangements will be made to ensure safety in the ground have not been provided. Fans are expected to make a considerable financial commitment without the information they need to make an informed decision. This is not an acceptable or fair way of doing business

c. The option to pay by instalments has been removed to be replaced by a finance scheme. This has several disadvantages notably an interest rate of 12.15% APR and the fact that some fans who previously have paid by instalments with no problems have been refused credit and are unable to renew. It also means that the club are asking the poorest of their fans to lend them money for free whilst directing them to a lender who will charge the fans an effective interest rate of 12.15%. This is extremely disappointing.

2. Deferral of Season Ticket

a. This is only available to persons who are “shielding”. As shielding is no longer in place it is difficult to know what is meant by this. Different fans have been given different information. It also appears that it is not available to fans who have family members who are vulnerable.

b. Fans are being asked to provide potentially sensitive medical information to someone from the box office who is presumably not trained to make clinical judgements on specific situations. This is insensitive and demeaning and results in a lottery as to whether people are accepted as being “entitled” to pay £200 to reserve their Season ticket for the following year.

c. The payment of £200 is unnecessary. The club are not losing money as the seats cannot be used in any event at present. Should the ground open up before the end of the season then there is no reason why the club should not sell the tickets to one off attendees so long as the seats are available for next year. Sadly this policy means that the Club are asking its most vulnerable fans to give them a seasons long loan of £200, a sum which must be minimal when considering the clubs overall income but which is likely to cause hardship to those who are entitled to apply. These will be predominantly fans with a disability or older fans who do not even get a concession rate for their reservation payment

It is particularly disappointing to see Palace’s offer in the light of the other available offers from similar clubs. For example Brighton have a particularly fair system which has clearly been designed with fans in mind.

While it is too late to completely change the system it could easily be made better to take the concerns of fans onboard

We urge the Club to do the following as soon as possible

1. Extend the deadline to decide to the end of the month. There is no need for fans to decide immediately. There will be no attendance at games in September and our first home game in October is not until 17th. In the additional time publish details of the Clubs response plan for Covid 19, set out what the match day experience will involve, how matches will be allocated and how much notice will be given. This will allow fans to make an informed choice

2. Extend the defer to 2021/22 option to everyone who isn't comfortable returning during a pandemic, regardless of reason or medical history, with no requirement for medical evidence.

3. Provide partial refunds within 14 days after each match for which a ST holder is unsuccessful in the ballot – this is something that both West Ham and Everton are offering and their Season Ticket take up has been good as fans appreciate that they have been considered and are getting a fair deal.

4. Reintroduce the Direct Debit option for those fans who are unable to pay upfront even if only for this season then at least fans will not be being asked to lend the club money at considerable cost to themselves.

We would suggest that the above is not only fair to fans but also makes good business sense as more fans are likely to renew and/or defer if the above measures are put in place and this will benefit the club both for long term goodwill and short term cash flow

All valid and reasonable requests sw16girl, but what do you think are the chances of them being implemented in your experience of dealing with the club?

It may depend on how renewals are going - it may be that the club will sit down and realise that it is simply just not a very good policy. However they have changed things in the past particularly if a valid case has been made for a change.
