Would be interesting to test them

I think this is the only way forward. Of course many will be upset about leaving Selhurst, me included, but if we get a well designed new stadium, why not. The issue of where is another matter

The obvious choice would to redevelop the whole of Crystal Palace Park Stadium area. Incorporate our academy and training pitches within a smaller running track type Arena and have a main Football Stadium etc etc much like a mini Olympic / Man City style village set up.

I don't see them caring. They've done nothing for Palace. They see us as an annoyance, at best, and at worst a bunch of thugs. Imagine some of the businesses without Palace. Matchdays their main source of income.

That would be ideal, unfortunately the NIMBYs are powerful there. However sooner or later the old stadium will be redeveloped probably for housing, they may wish Palace were there

Trouble is, it all sounds great getting a fancy new stadium however the reality would probably be some soulless, identikit Lego set with the nearest pub two miles away.

Selhurst May be a sh@thole but it’s our sh@thole and a proper ground.

Maybe a few reasons not to relocate there, but think about it. A rail link right on site, multi bus links, no need to drive there. Therefore can have a beer before and after the match. Housing well away from the ground, so no issues with local inhabitants. Ample grounds subject to availabilty for academy.
Even if you cant walk half a kilometre to the nearest pub, create a "social village " ie restaurants, music venues even knocking shops if they are legal all within the complex producing more revenue for the club. This is all from the top of my head. Imagine if Mr Parish got to thinking about that.

When the CPP plans were announced in 2011 the NSC seemed keen on the idea of getting someone to pay for their redevelopment. Especially due to the swimming pool running cost. You never know, there might be a South London commonwealth games one day and we can do what Man City did.

London has a game in Concert Venue capacity. The O2 fits 20,000 then theres nothing until you get to 60,000 seater stadiums. A 40,000 could fill that gap. Plus, could be used as a world cup/euros venue.

That said, Croydon Council have only shown they will support the club when they threatened to move away. The club are a cash cow to them and they dont appreciate the asset they have.

Squabbling over where to put 4 new houses and trying to get the club to pay for new cycle lanes to mitigate the impact of a new stand seems to be stifling development and jobs.

A question for planning types like Dorking if he ever frequents this site any more.

What would the planning hurdles be like if we saw a means of building a 40k stadium from scratch on the current site? Ie not impinging on neighbouring property/land.

Tom, the Twickenham village surrounding the rugby stadium with lots of bars and food stalls is great pre-match and my dream for Palace would be a village of similar style surrounding a new stadium at Crystal Palace. There is insufficient room at Selhurst to do it, however there is probably sufficient money in the sale of our current ground to help fund a new ground if we could get given the old athletics stadium.

Its a big ask but you have to dream big.

Scale and massing are the two obvious ones, building larger than previous, overlooking, satisfying modern infrastructure requirements for disabled access, toilets etc, etc. There simply isn't enough room on the Arthur Wait side of the ground to increase the size of the stand too much without massive overcrowding of the housing opposite.

I genuinely believe there is insufficent space at SP to build a 40,000 stadium. Best hope is to renew the Arthur Wait, look at increasing the size of the Sainsbury end, renew the main stand as per the plans. Not sure what that would give you in total, maybe edging towards 35k?

I am in the camp that we should be building a new stadium at the old athletics arena.

There's no serious hope of CPP though, wonderful thought that it is.

I reckon we could hit 40k if the plot of land were a brownfield site and we were creative.

Two tier Arthur but shallower than what we have so that the residents' skyline isn't messed up. A more modest version of the main stand plan (assuming residents / sainsbury couldn't be dealt with)

Oh...and if we can, dig deeper. I know that can be expensive. Buys us some more capacity maybe.
