Starmer is the better man and everyone knows it.

Jimmy Saville was a fan apparently.

A good week for labour with the end of the corrupt tory rail franchising system.

It was such a con even they got tired of it.

Where are the benefactors of all that public largesse?

Gone with the taxpayers money.

If he or other previous PMs Blair Brown had been listened to we would have had mass testing up and running by now and facing the future with some hope.

With tests that are flawed? That charm less wonder boy captain hindsight keeps saying this and so do his disciples under text message orders.

I would find it very difficult to guess the party that each of the posters would vote for, from the posts on this thread.

A lot of BRITISH.... WORKERS are becoming politically homeless but get accused of following popularism.

I know what you mean; I will disgust you by telling you that I was always Labour. However, since the days of Blair I have been essentially disenfranchised. I also dislike the looney left like Corbyn. I liked the Labour for the working class, which doesn't exist anymore. I can see why working people would vote Conservative - that's just a bridge too far for me. I don't agree with high taxes for workers, unless they get serious benefits for those taxes.
We would probably mostly have the same views, even though I used to be Labour. So I am politically homeless so to speak. I will disgust you all and explain that I don't use my postal vote now - not even tactically. I don't support any of the parties.
And in Ireland, I dislike all of the parties! So I'm essentially f@cked. There is room for a new party - along the lines of a common sense, working person's party. Lower taxes on the workers would be the starting point.

Whilst Starmer might make you smile, you just made me!

Your posts frequently do as they are so far removed from any connections to reality.

Corbyn was totally responsible for the size of Labour's loss last year and, as a consequence, responsible for allowing an incompetent Tory government to be able to act without effective oversight.

The problem wasn't "campaigning for a second vote". It was NOT campaigning for a second vote and offering a garbled message about what it planned to do. Labour was hogtied by Corbyn's personal opposition to the EU. It tried to face both ways and appeal to remainers in the south and it's core base in the north.

Labour lost not in December but a year ago when it spurned the opportunity to take down the government via a vote of no confidence. If Corbyn had resigned and the opposition parties had formed a government of national unity, together with the brave group of resisting Tories, we would not now be in the mess we are now. We would have had an interim PM, and a deal with the EU that would have guaranteed a soft Brexit and a confirmatory referendum to approve it, locked into law before another GE.

What would have then happened when the pandemic struck can only be conjecture but I suspect that all further negotiations with the EU would have been suspended whilst a joint effort was mounted to work together to defeat it. Delaying Brexit when C19 is a much bigger priority is a no brainer. That it isn't even discussed just shows how brainless this government is turning out to be.

Starmer has been thrown a curve ball but if he re-directs Labour back to the centre ground then there is every chance that they will win the next GE. Capturing the centre ground is the only way that any political party can expect to gain power in the UK.

We get it. You are another one with an irrational hatred of the Tories.
It seems to blind you to the stark reality of just how pathetic the Labour Party has become in recent years. They are like a bunch of whining lefty students. Their fifth election defeat in a row is a virtual certainty.

I don't hate the Tories! I hate hard-right politics and populism. The Tories of MacMillan, Heath, Major, and even Cameron I empathised with. I am, and always have been, on the centre right. So when Blair occupied that ground I empathised with him too.

The current version of the Tory party have no real visions, ethics or standards. They appeal to the lowest common denominators. They follow public sentiment and don't lead it. They make me ashamed to be British. Just as reading some of the opinions here make me ashamed to be a Palace supporter, although I comfort myself they are only a tiny minority.

The notion that a decision about a possible prosecution of such a prominent public figure Saville did not include Starmer in on the loop is utterly ludicrous. And the idea that the head of an institution does not bear responsibility for what their subordinates did, or did not do in this case, went out of the window in 1946.

You know what makes me ashamed to be on the same land mass.

A Police and institutional apologist for inaction that enabled thousands of white and some Sikh girls to be raped for decades....a guy who said they knew this was happening decades ago.

Those people make me want to vomit.

Still waiting for justice.

Starmer was head of the CPS when the decision was made not to prosecute Savile but he was not the reviewing lawyer for the case.

An official investigation commissioned later by Starmer criticised both prosecutors and police for their handling of the allegations.

And we have Starmer to thank for instituting the right to review of a CPS decision.
