The post clearly states that Ward has been a great servant at the club. His loyalty is not in question. His footballing ability is, however.

If his place in the team is predicated on his character, above his ability, then I’m not surprised you can’t find fault in his performances. I happen to think we should demand more quality from the team.

What the feck are you on about?

I remember Wardy's defending in the play off final, if it wasn't for him Watford would have won. Two top notch clearances, one off the line in the last minute.

Always gives his all.

I don't think anyone doubts his past contributions, the only game that matters is the next one.

May sound harsh but so is pro football.

Always gives his best.

Nothing he could do yesterday.

Remember when that liability made a goal line clearance vs Watford in the last minute of extra time.

He has been an ever present in a side which has generally been deemed good defensively since we arrived in the Premier League. Yes you are right he deserves respect so give it and pipe down. It’s players like Ward who have kept us in this division, which given the size of our club is unnatural

Looking at the media most of the pundits feel it was a bad decision even Seamus Coleman spoke up for Ward.

I have given up trying to understand the hand ball rule I guess my preference would be for something like moving your hand towards the ball or your hand in an unnatural position but how you would define that in a rule I don't know.

It's not VAR that is ruining the game but the rules around it apparently Friend made the correct decision based on the rules but even he didn't think it was morally a penalty.

Anyway this and the offside rule need to be fixed.

I remember him being outstanding in the Play Off Final too. I also remember him being MOTM against West Brom a couple of seasons ago too BUT things move on. Ward has been immense for this club, a true professional and is still sound defensively however the criticism of the OP is harsh. I wouldn’t agree that Ward Is always a liability but he is somebody we should be looking to upgrade on and indeed that is no doubt why we have recruited Ferguson and are looking at Clyne as an interim option.

As I wrote in the Everton match thread, he offers us nothing going forward and in todays modern game that is simply not good enough for a Premier League full back. He is slow, predictable, doesn’t see or play the incisive pass, doesn’t take his man on and whip a cross in and is usually the reason our forward move comes to an end down the right hand side with either a misplaced pass or having been caught in possession.

He does give his all yes, but it IS a Playing position we need to improve on.

Also to be clear, in no way was he at fault for the ridiculous handball decision yesterday and/or subsequent penalty award.

Ward has been fine this season but it will be good to have Ferguson in place should this change.

Mitchell was partly to blame for the goal but he is young and is learning.

Ward has been a great servant and deserves respect, I do however feel that his time is drawing to a close. The chances are that he will find himself on the bench before Christmas.

Ward has been a great servant for us and gives he’s all when selected. I think defensively he does the job Hodgson wants from him but he’s forward play is he’s downfall. If we are to move forward with this team then we need a fullback that is excellent at the back and going forward. Someone that can pass better and cross / get down to the bye line as Coleman did yesterday for the first Everton goal. Perhaps Ferguson will be that player or dare I say someone we have training with us now - Clyne? Ward would still be a great backup though.

Watching - Palace TV - Copers Cope TV the players in training this week, Wardy was advancing towards the opposition box (under Roy’s instruction) and put in A decent cross. You could hear Hodgson praising him ‘great cross Wardy’ in the background.

Maybe he just lacks the confidence during actual games.
