'Organised' crime only works if it can remain organised and the reality is that it only remains that way if people are linked through family and cultural ties.

The Mafia in the US is largely a spent force because of people turning super-grasses. In many ways you can see the forces that shaped the Italain Mafia in the early 20th century present in Albania. Throw in the fact that when Communism fell in Albanaia and they emptied out the jails, telling the inmates to get out of the country, it is no wonder they now dominate many of the more serious criminal activities. Which lets be honest honest here is primarily drugs.

My understanding is that the reputation for violence is rather over-blown, although they are more than capable, and that if you actually want to make money, rather than strutt around being an arsehole, the Albanains are rather good business partners. Reliable, not leaky and tend to do what they say they will. And they are truly international. All over Europe and with good reputations in South America for actually being serious players who don't leave much to chance.

But the Albanains will fade away over the coming decades as their kids, born and raised in the affulent West, f*** up like the US Mafia did and they will go down the route that all organised crime ultimately goes down of imploding.

If a major league criminal has any brains then they push their kids into top private schools and get them to go into high level finance. Where the serious money is made, often illegally, and with almost no risks what so ever.

Its how the UK operates and many a 'Brit' now sitting in various board rooms and other such places has a dodgy grandparent who cut a few throats. s***, that is how our Royal Family came to prominence.

Yeah, did see a thing the other year that most private schools survive on dodgy money!

A touching and thoughtful sentiment. Your words sound like they describe him to a T.

Thank you. And to Croydon Proud who commented above you. It's very easy to get caught up in dramatics and say something nice about someone who has passed but there's no bulls*** here with Matt. He was old school. He want bad or a bully (cos I've worked with plenty of old bill that are)

He was one of life's nice people. A physically imposing man who believe me as if shared a gym with him, could lift some serious weights. Amazing rugby player to. Shouldn't be forgotten he represented London Irish when he first came here in 1991. I was lucky enough to play alongside him in the front row for the Met Police. A powerful man in every way.

All this is spot on although I would add you dont cross albanians it won't be one of the ones here who does you it will be one from albania itself who will be back on a plane before anybody knows but if you don't cross them they won't cross you its sort of a fear and respect thing. I think this is the main reason they don't go into Liverpool. They won't be able to take it over without making to much noise and it makes no sense when they basically have london and birmingham and glasgow under wraps. What's a few wheelie buns and scrap yards in Liverpool gonna bring in. Got some albanian mates on the Gascoigne estate all good lads to be honest never a bad word said about them or from them. I know for a fact some of them are moody though but they aint going about stabbing people and mugging people so what you don't know cant hurt you.

A wonderful sentiment. Your colleague sounded like a truly special person. One of my Godson's best friends was trained by him at East Grinstead Rugby club and is devestated, as are all of them there. A lot of people hurting over his passing in this manner.

No, that won’t be the headline.

Little seems to be known of him after he left school. He wasn’t into gangs then as far as anyone knows. But he was an outsider.

Perhaps he went travelling

Many Albanians obtained entry to the U.K. early this century in the guise of being Kosovan. Kosovan’s were granted special concessions after the Balkan war, it was easy for the Albanians to pitch up and claim to be Kosovan.

A couple of my best mates know him well through East Grinstead rugby club and say that he was an all round terrific bloke. Very sad indeed.

I first met Matt in the early 90's when we both 0layed semi pro rugby. Never on the same team but always friendly rivalry. He was well respected across the local rugby World.

His was always one for friendly banter but with a twinkle in his eye.

Will miss him

All this in your face filming should be made illegal, the police should be able to go about their business without the possibility of having their faces plastered all over social media. They have their body cams which can be used in any necessary investigation He was obviously trying to provoke a reaction which never came. Absolute to**er. Police lives Matter
