Ask dom why he wanted to get rid of it then,Uber are indeed wiping the floor with the taxi game, but the games over, its a race to the bottom, but has a knock on effect, nobody in their right mind will pay 70k for a new electric taxi, so the game will disappear, taxi drivers will retrain as sparks and plumbers, bringing your game down, and you already told us you have taken a 20& drop in salary, so with lots more plumbers around it can only do more damage - although you do all earn 120k a year so plenty of scope for a decrease!

Any trade is a good trade. Said before on here that you can always turn a shilling with a trade.
Never too late to learn although plumbing air conditioning and electrics take a while to be at a confident level. Plastering and brick laying may be quicker to learn but experience only makes you better. I've worked with both and they are seriously good at the top of their game.

Government sponsored apprenticeships is the way forward in my opinion in every trade. More so with Brexit coming up. If the government put up 50% of the salary and in return the business trains them up an sends them on appropriate courses. Within 5-10 years we will have a decent pool of semi-skilled and skilled Labour again.

I took optional redundancy in January after 20 years service and put the money into getting qualified as an electrician. Past my level 2 in July and fingers crossed pass my level 3 mid December, ready to work Jan 2021.
