We've finished 11th, 12th, and 14th.
In the 4 seasons before that we finished 10th, 11th, 14th and 15th. With the caveat that when we finished 15th we reached a cup final.

Hodgson's performance is slightly worse than the 4 previous season. The level of entertainment is dour. He's got the most expensive squad we've ever had assembled.

Average at best and declining.

is it?, then it says a lot about our quality?

Perhaps but we haven't addressed the main problems which are scoring goals and the age of the squad,

I know that we have bought a young crock to play in defence but until he gets fit we will have to continue to rely on Dad's Army.

Bats joined us less than a week after scoring twice for Belgium but he has had to make do with five minutes at the end so if that carries on we won't be scoring goals either.

Andros Townsend made an interesting comment that Leeds and Villa were scoring goals for fun as they played as if they weren't scared of anyone. Shame that we can't be the same

They'll be scared soon don't worry, the sight of Zaha beating himself ten times and Townsend twisting and turning with Benteke in the centre circle they won't know what's hit them when Eze runs through the middle..

How have we progressed over the last four years as we have effectively just stood still with our ancient squad getting older and older

How much money have Leicester, Everton and Wolves spent in recent seasons I wonder?

Last season was a really brilliant opportunity for our club to show something when we secured safety with so many points still to play for, first time we've done that and that's progress in my book and so far apart from the Chelsea 2nd half we've looked a good solid outfit and a good prospect for any enterprising new manager to be able to make changes due to players becoming too old, we are almost perfectly placed for a new manager with fresh ideas to come in and take over from the brilliant stabilising job Mr Hodgson has achieved with the whole club, he deserves a huge medal I think.

Exciting times are ahead for this club, shame Covid 19 is ruining everything at the moment.

I think people are forgetting how poor the squad was under Pullis and Pardew.

In his last transfer window Pardew added Tompkins, Benteke, and Townsend for a combined £55m.

BFS added £45m worth of players. Then we added Reidewald and Sakho for £35m.

I just found a old programme from Feb 2015. We had a squad that included Mariappa, Hangeland, McCarthy, Thomas, Friers, Mutch, Ameobi & Sonogo. Really, we are a lot stronger now. We finished 10th that season.

Hodgson is nothing special.

I should note, that I don't advocate sacking a manager over our last two performances. It's more the performance over last season, particualarly from Christmas onwards. I'm quite willing to see how he does over the next two games, but nothing less than 6 points should be acceptable. My main gripe is with people continually calling Roy a mirical worker - he's not. He's our 4th most successful manager since promotion and has several huge flaws. As soon as someone decent comes available we should move on.

Looking at Leicester, they haven't spent as much as many imagine as they have offloaded players like Mahrez,Kante,Maguire and Chilwell for substantial fees.

My understanding is that Leicester's 'Net Spend' over this season and the previous 4 seasons is approaching £100 Mill.

You haven't answered the question.

I can name about 12 teams our size who have gone backwards over the past 4 years and only Southampton who are on par with us. You could argue Leicester and Wolves but IMO they are bigger clubs.

Its not as easy as some people think to keep climbing up the table as its simple not possible for all teams to do it!

Were Leicester a bigger club than us before they won the PL? i'd argue not. that was only just outside of your self imposed 4 yr timeframe.

Wolves similar. Bigger than us before they gained promotion ? maybe not.

This whole Size thing is arbitrary anyway. So I dare say that you've mentioned 2 of the 4 right there.

I'd be adding Sheffield Utd and Luton to That list (or are they too small to compare), bearing in mid where they were 4 years ago.

Here we go again, the same old argument.

I'm pro Roy and have explained my reasoning on many occasions, and my views are largely in line with others that support him.

I don't think anyone in my ' camp ' has claimed that he's '' special '' or a '' miracle worker ''. Just doing the job he is paid to do in the best way he knows how.

Someone '' decent '' - who would that be exactly ?

Furthermore he has achieved the objective of keeping the club in the PL, for 3 seasons at that, and on a shoestring to boot.

The 'Net Spend' since he has been at the helm is about £10 Million.Perhaps some DO label him a "Miracle worker".

Look at the tools he has to work with.

Firstly, the quality of the players:

We forget so quickly how, of all the attackers we have employed in Roys time, it's really only Zaha that has cut the mustard on any kind of consistent basis, whilst most of the others have been awful.

How any squad containing Benteke, Meyer, Wickham, Sako etc. ever stays up is beyond me. And that's without the likes of Ayew and Townsend producing half a season of sh!te most years.

Secondly, look the nature of the players:

If you have the ingredients to make an omelette then you don't press ahead with making a casserole, however much you might like one.

If you have tall, old, slow but generally solid centre backs as well as fast, individualistic but slightly hit-and-miss forwards then you defend deep and play on the break.

However much you or I might like the idea, you don't play open, free flowing football without a very different (and probably far better) set of players than we have ever had.

I mean, you could try, but before you do maybe ask Blackpool, Swansea, post-Pulis Stoke, Wigan, Fulham, Norwich, or Bournemouth how it feels to have your ar$e handed to you on a plate. Very often.

Yes, our tactics are tedious at times, but that doesn't make them anything other than the right recipe for our ingredients.

Besides, when we have had decent attacking options (RLCs loan spell, Bats also) Roy's football hasn't been as dour as that practised by Pulis or Allardyce.

If we had have known we would get the results we have, most of us would have given Roy the job. The club certainly would, and unlike some on here, they live in the real world.

Again though, again and again quite frankly, let's take this argument - our squad is largely average or not even average. We have Zaha and decent centre backs, big ones as you say. I can't believe I'm saying this again, I must have posted maybe ten times the same now: why don't we work on set pieces? Off the top of my head, we were number one in the league from set pieces under Pulis, and certainly within the top two teams under Allardyce. When we USED to get a corner, we had belief we might score.
Now when we get a set piece, I can hardly be bothered to watch it. If I do, I'm angry. We are literally the worst team at set pieces in the whole league (or thereabouts). Again, why the actual f#ck not work on set pieces? Do we need to practice our 'organistion' 24/7? Someone needs to have a word, or even some f#cking responsibility for this. It explains exactly why teams can foul us with impunity. Teams couldn't do that to Burnley, who are crap frankly, because they would score a decent percentage of set pieces. Practice set pieces, practice bloody set pieces. I think we scored 14/15 goals from corners under Pulis. It was one maybe two last year. This is my biggest criticism of Roy. Sorry for the rant, it's just that this is so blatantly obvious that I can't believe it has to be said. If I was SP I would politely ask Roy about this - does his philosophy rule out practising free kicks and corners? It bloody looks like it from where I'm sitting.

You must be a youngster as Wolves have a long history at the top level including 11 league titles as well as the FA Cup four times

Didn’t Leicester win the league cup a couple of times in the 90s as well?
You are correct about Wolves, captained by Billy Wright
