Spot on.

Some famous old names played/managed Wolves including Stan Cullis, Billy Wright, Derek Dougan, Bert Williams etc etc.
They are steeped in history.

Looking at Leicester, they haven't spent as much as many imagine as they have offloaded players like Mahrez,Kante,Maguire and Chilwell for substantial fees.

My understanding is that Leicester's 'Net Spend' over this season and the previous 4 seasons is approaching £100 Mill.

I must respectfully disagree because Leicester have spent heavily in the last 4 full Seasons (Since August 2016). They have paid out circa £291.8 million in transfer fees from this date, compared directly with ours from the same time frame, which is £128.4 million.

They may have a more reasonable ‘net’ outlay because of the transfer fees they have received from selling players but that doesn’t alter the fact that they have spent huge amounts in the previous 4 Seasons (almost £300 million!)

Again though, again and again quite frankly, let's take this argument - our squad is largely average or not even average. We have Zaha and decent centre backs, big ones as you say. I can't believe I'm saying this again, I must have posted maybe ten times the same now: why don't we work on set pieces? Off the top of my head, we were number one in the league from set pieces under Pulis, and certainly within the top two teams under Allardyce. When we USED to get a corner, we had belief we might score.
Now when we get a set piece, I can hardly be bothered to watch it. If I do, I'm angry. We are literally the worst team at set pieces in the whole league (or thereabouts). Again, why the actual f#ck not work on set pieces? Do we need to practice our 'organistion' 24/7? Someone needs to have a word, or even some f#cking responsibility for this. It explains exactly why teams can foul us with impunity. Teams couldn't do that to Burnley, who are crap frankly, because they would score a decent percentage of set pieces. Practice set pieces, practice bloody set pieces. I think we scored 14/15 goals from corners under Pulis. It was one maybe two last year. This is my biggest criticism of Roy. Sorry for the rant, it's just that this is so blatantly obvious that I can't believe it has to be said. If I was SP I would politely ask Roy about this - does his philosophy rule out practising free kicks and corners? It bloody looks like it from where I'm sitting.

This suggests we aren't great from set pieces (or corners at least) having scored only three, but the average is only 6 and a half, so we're only 'missing out' on three or four extra goals:

I think people are forgetting how poor the squad was under Pullis and Pardew.

In his last transfer window Pardew added Tompkins, Benteke, and Townsend for a combined £55m.

BFS added £45m worth of players. Then we added Reidewald and Sakho for £35m.

I just found a old programme from Feb 2015. We had a squad that included Mariappa, Hangeland, McCarthy, Thomas, Friers, Mutch, Ameobi & Sonogo. Really, we are a lot stronger now. We finished 10th that season.

Hodgson is nothing special.

I should note, that I don't advocate sacking a manager over our last two performances. It's more the performance over last season, particualarly from Christmas onwards. I'm quite willing to see how he does over the next two games, but nothing less than 6 points should be acceptable. My main gripe is with people continually calling Roy a mirical worker - he's not. He's our 4th most successful manager since promotion and has several huge flaws. As soon as someone decent comes available we should move on.

I should damn well hope not! Our record since our return to the Prem against Everton (W2/D7/L6) and Chelsea (W4/D0/L11) is abysmal. Expecting points in either game is not realistc considering how much they both spent recently.

In contrast however, our record against Man Utd (W2/D3/L10) and Soton (W4/D2/L9) isn't much different, but we have 6 points, so there is an argument to suggest we are doing very well indeed.

What a load of drivel from 'the cup half empties' Palace Supporters.

Just a minute, why are people blaming Roy for defensive errors??? Human error is a factor, and inhuman to expect players to be Robots.

Regarding subs ... sure, got 90 million???

It's awful, that as a mere Palace fan, this thread is up for the topic yet again. Negative people here in this thread think that the money being spent is not prudently sufficient, or is the Gaffers fault. Just because you are great at tactics or finance. Does in my opinion amount to poppy-cock and balderdash.

As a happy Roy fan though at times disappointed, we knew what we were getting, and the alternatives at the time were a lot worse.

Yes, I am proud we are in the prem, which I may add has made a healthy contribution by way of Managers and Internationals to the history of the football league.

But I'm far more proud we are known as a club with honest fans and honest players that play honest football.

I motion to close this thread today.

Whilst we have a dysfunctional board there will be little interest from quality Managers, remember the last board selection as a manager before Roy came in took ages to find and we ended up with FdB and we all know where that was taking us but for Roy who came and saved us!

You've really got to start looking externally to see how other clubs are run.

Roy has two decent seasons. But he has 34 games to avoid relegation with what was possibly our best ever squad that season. FdB should have won the Huddersfield and Swansea games, Liverpool and Burnley away were free hits so we were only effectively 6 points behind where we needed to be. Not a miracle worker by any means. Pullis, Pardew and BFS took on the team from a much worse position with worse squads and finished higher.

CPFC2010 have sacked 4 managers in a decade. Burley, Pardew and Hodgson were given plenty of time. Warnock shouldn't really have had the job in the first place and we got Pardew in the next day. FdB was an unforeseeable disaster - he seem to be someone who said all the right things at interview then did the exact opposite. Holloway wasn't sacked and his initial resignation was rejected. We haven't treated managers badly at all.

Maybe so, But what constitutes a 'big club' - winning titles in the Past and having history?
Huddersfield Town won the league 3 times in the 20s, does that make them a 'big club'?
