I seem to recall an article by an American sports writer during one of our one season wonder years. We were very negative hoping to score on the break. He described it as a tactic of the weak. I was incensed at the time but looking at us now that is exactly what we are doing and what we are. Trouble is most fans find it difficult to admit that we are one of the weakest squads in this division but are holding a central line by following the moneyballs design of conceding the fewest goals.

Someone said the manure game was the anomaly. I disagree. Of the 5 games played I think the awful 2nd half against Chelsea was the anomaly. The rest of the games have all gone to plan and we would be on 10 points from 5 had the toffees not got that pen and we held out for a few more minutes today.

Not bad for a club with f¥¥k all.

That was proper s*** today. Home form has been deteriorating season after season so performances like this are no longer a surprise unfortunately. The amount of time and money we’ve had since promotion is astonishing when seeing just how s*** we are. There’s one person that needs to take the blame and he needs to sort this s*** out but I don’t think Parish knows how to. This won’t change all the time Roy’s in charge so we’ll just have suck this up no matter how fvcking embarrassing it is. Just glad we didn’t have to go to selhurst to watch that crap today.

'We opted for the siege mentality'
Crystal Palace 1-1 Brighton

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, speaking to BBC Sport: "The quality of the defensive performance and effort they put in against a good team. We defended our way almost to a very good three points. It is something that can happen, in the first or the 95th minute - if the opponent have the ball around your area it can fall kindly or get the fortune with a deflection, which I'm sure they would say is fully deserved.

"We started to show our teeth at times in the first half. But unfortunately there is always something in a game when you lead 1-0 and the opponent is taking the game to you, there is something that brings a siege mentality to see the game through. Had we got the second goal you would have seen a different mentality, But we decided on the siege mentality and it almost saw us through.

"There is a lot more we have to give. We ran into a Brighton team that played well today. We were good enough defensively and with our discipline and spirit to come away with three points but we wouldn't be whooping for joy saying that is all our tactical work solved. Luckily I am now doing it with a group with competition for places."

On VAR: "It has been opted for. VAR was opted for. It was seen as better and ruling out clear errors of judgment. As it happens I don't know that there are so many from the on-field officials. It has brought us into a different world where when a goal is scored you wit to see if it will be chalked off. There are always going to degrees after a round of games of managers feeling they were either harshly or less harshly treated."

'We defended our way almost to three points'

And that is all that you need to know about Roy's approach to football and how we will be set up for the rest of the season.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Can't help thinking that we more than most teams have been affected by no crowds.

We all have witnessed terrible performances by Wilf and when the crowd get on his back he puts the work in. Today he was anonymous, but the team would have been booed stupid today if we had been there and no player wants that. I think someone would have raised their game and showed their passion.

But we are now gutless with a manager happy on the sidelines thinking we are defending well. To see Roy smiling in his interview was perplexing, has he forgotten how poor we were against Chelsea with no shots on goal. Bet MOTD make a point of this...... No improvement whatsoever.

One shot on goal in 180 minutes and it was a penalty!!!

With respect we were hardly entertaining WITH crowds at Selhurst Park.

Turgid, negative dross against opponents who have hardly
sparkled over recent seasons, yet we allowed them to dominate and were too afraid to push them on to the back foot.

I'm afraid this is what we can expect, yet again this season under Roy Hodgson who was smiling after the game and praising our defensive resilience.

So playing for a draw at home to brighton was part of the plan?

Hodgson appears to be happy with a draw as we were resilient defensively.

I was in a public house tonight and a couple of supporters (Whom I have never seen before), were very vocal in their criticism of Hodgson. There was a degree of profanity amongst their ordure.
My dear wife who has had to put up with my foam-flecked frenzy about our performance, implored me NOT to join their debate.

Yep, and I'm sick and tired about hearing how well Everton are doing, our game against them had nothing to do with them beating us at all and in actual fact we had them in that second half, the Chelsea game was full of nasty niggling fouls from them and us defending in the second half like the boys brigade in a hurricane and as you say today if the offside was just a cm back it would've been in the bag.

I'm sure we have had worse starts to the season? ;-)

2 wins, 2 losses and a draw ain't bad at all!

If I wanted to watch good football every week I'd start following Liverpool / man city! We have always played crap football bar the season we got promoted and then some time under pardew! In my opinion anyway!

Win some we loose some, we win 5 in row we loose 5 in row! Draw the odd few games! We go a couple of games without conceding them somtimes we can't score or defend!

I am quite happily enjoying our best years in the prem.
