It's a tough one this... I dont really know any really practicing Muslims... But I did work with one for many years at Croydon in the Old bill called Atiq... Now I loved Atiq and considered him a good friend... He was a strict practising Muslim but in what I would call a good way. Firstly he was a top copper.. A very good footballer to and was in Arsenals youth set up for a long time. Whenever I was posted on the car with him I used to enjoy our chats about Islam because I knew very little about it. One of the things he used to tell me that I found interesting was about these suicide bombers... He always used to say that in Islam, as he interpreted it killing yourself was a massive no no... According to him in Islam taking your own life is massively frowned upon so kind of makes a mockery out of suicide bombers... The other thing I found interesting was his take on how us Brits treat our elderly... We used to go to so many old people who had been dead in their homes for weeks if not months... He couldn't get his head round that as in his culture you have your elderly relatives living with you where as he used to say us white Brits just leave ours to die... to be fair I couldn't disagree with him... Anyway sorry for the ramble!! Just thought I'd say what I was thinking!!

to be honest a lot of the Muslims I know my age are decent guys and even some older ones the problem is when they're from a totally non secular family background and not integrated with everyone else for example you can spot the difference in a muslim from romford and a muslim from Ilford if they're not integrated or gone to british schools mixed with Sikhs and Hindus I have a hard time trusting them or even liking them they can be nasty bustards on the basis of their religion alone. Of course you get w***ers of all colours and creeds but it aint their religion that make them that way. Muslims integrated are just like anybody else I would ban muslim only schools they have no place in a secular society and try and integrate them further to stamp this extremism out.

The idea of multiculturalism would be that you walk down a street and the first house is Muslim, the second Chinese, the third English, the fourth polish and so on. With couples married from different backgrounds. Where English language plus many other languages all abound. Very different to what we are seeing up and down the country. The definition of a ghetto is one culture, one language, one music, one cuisine etc etc. Everybody else not welcome there. There are neighbourhoods in France where nobody speaks French. And in England where nobody speaks English.

We certainly are not a ghetto, we intergrate with the locals & abide by their laws. Digress from these laws & they will jump down your throat, unlike namby-pamby Britain.

Hrolf, how little you know me, i never said how Britain should be run, just compared it to how Spain deals with the self same issues & FYI, i live between the 2 countries as a lot of expats do, incl 4 other HOLers(that i know of). Hope this clears it up a bt for you(& others).
