I wasn't making a point about the government I was making a point that its easy for multi millionaires to throw their hat in the ring and support worthy causes, but true generosity comes from providing that support directly and I came up with a way of supporting that cause with a little tax relief.

Surely it's not the governments job to do everything for the parents?

A schools primary duty is to educate children. Maybe just leave them to focus on that.

Quite right. We should certainly go back to how it was in 1905. Namby pamby modern families claiming they need help. Let them eat cake.

10 years of Tory rule and we've finally reached a point where we're debating whether or not we should feed poor children.

It was only a matter of time!

If punk ever happened I'd be preaching the law, instead of listenin to Lydon lecture BBC4

Whether through poverty or feckless parenting there are little kids not getting a square meal on a daily basis.
Actually - whilst it might not be the fault of this government, previous ones have allowed things to happen that directly cause some of these issues and that can mean that some of these kids have real issues and eating is a basic human right in a civilised Society.
As far as I am concerned I am happy to pay to ensure that it happens wherever possible.
I contribute to food banks every week as do millions of other people but this Country needs to sort out what is the most important and it literally makes me cry to think of a kid going to sleep hungry likely no more that a few miles away from where I live.
Totally and utterly wrong.

So we can get the footballers to pay for hungry kids, maybe pop stars can pay for victims of domestic abuse, cricketers can pay for housing the homeless and the government can spend the savings on giving billionaires another tax break?

No, cricketers don’t get paid enough but I’d go for pop stars chipping in. Everyone needs to help and the wealthy need to get involved. They never will of course on this sort of scale as the majority are all way too selfish with their money even though they could never spenc it in 10 generations.

You get me wrong if you think I agree with the government voting down the suggestion because I don’t.

We also need a plan in place to start repaying the money we constantly borrow and that needs to start at the top of the tree and not midway down which I fear will be what actually happens.

Successive Governments - Labour more than most - have encouraged young people to have children they could ill afford to have.
They have encouraged them to have as many as they want and then agreed to pay for their needs and housing to the extent that having children was a way of receiving endless benefits and housing and many of the parents didn't give two hoots about their offspring.
It encouraged single parenting with absent Fathers.
This has as such been stopped but the slack needs taking up whilst those poor kids pass through the system and until then we should bloody well feed them.
Don't just blame the Tories for this - Labour is the cause and everyone else is as usual trying to clear up their mess!

With Labour in power obviously we would not be having this debate.

Maybe Jamie Oliver could reopen the 25 restaurants he closed to provide school dinners. He’s had enough to say on the subject.

With Labour in power - aka Mr Corbyn - our living nightmare would be far worse than it is now!

The debate is who should feed the children in the school holidays. Something that's unprecedented.

We've not had 10 years of Tory rule. We've had less than a year of a Tory government. The previous one was 10 years are made up of about 3 years worth of Tory rule and 7 of coalitions.

The Labour leadership has been completely inept over most of the last decade. 10 years ago the Tories couldn't even win an election even though Labour had made a complete balls up of the economy.

Perhaps be angry at the people who voted for Ed instead of David, then wouldn't chuck Corbyn out of the party despite being told time and time again that the electorate hated him....

but it's easier to blame the Tory Government than to take accountability.

Yes - had DM and not EM been voted in politics may look very different today.
Same as back in the day if John Smith hadn't passed away - I might be a Tory but I really liked him as a man.
Blair would never have got in to power and the world would be a better place.

Labour brought social justice and prosperity and senile tory voters can never forgive it.
