You bought new shoes! How dare you! What's wrong with walking bare foot!

You wanted to buy your children Christmas presents! What's wrong with coal?

Dreaming of your daughter having her own room? Who do you think you are, the Queen?

If you are really worried about where your taxes are going, I suggest you look less at the pennies being dished to the poor and consider the billions handed out to ministers' mates since the lockdown.

Not saying the wasted millions are well spent, but if you ask for money for food, spend it on food. Not trainers, Christmas presents, more rent money etc. That's a seperate argument. And why should the taxpayer buy the kids presents, or the parents shoes anyway? Crying "shame on you" all the time is a ridiculous way to approach the problems.

As you prefer to fly an Irish flag in sure you will know, does Ireland pay for free school meals out of term time?

They dont even pay for the school books. Or for the kids to sit the exams. Parents have to.

It is true. However, the dole is over 200 a week here as standard. A lot more with kids. Ireland is where more people waste money on the dole than the UK. The disability and carer's payments are hugely abused. People on the dole in Ireland usually have more money than those who work.

I don't agree with what you are stating the rate Ireland pay out in benefits is correct amount to live on and you claim some of them are abused which is opinion not facts based on stats also that is a matter of how they process what is classed as disability etc.

I don't agree with people who work getting less money but a lot of those also can claim some benefits if on such little amounts so it's not just unemployed.

The UK when it comes to disability/sickness benefits is awful.

Real issue is poor money management which a lot of these people are known for even people that work are the same this was shown during this pandemic we live in a now society no longer putting money away to save etc taking out loans putting it all on credit cards buying luxury items don't need (clear example is people buying new games consoles yet moaning have no money so govt should give them some)

Agree, with this totally. I know people on benefits with brand new 70 inch tvs and designer clothes. Priorities seem to have taken a back seat. I do appreciate there is peer pressure especially amongst kids to have the latest this and that, but most of us will remember having to save up for something. The ease of access to payday company loans and unscrupulous credit card companies have to shoulder the blame for a lot of poverty in this country IMO.

It's my opinion that the dole is too much in Ireland. You can claim disability as a drug addict or alcoholic so you can see where it would be abused. It's also not really just an opinion as I work with the unemployed and disabled. Some genuine, most not genuine. Who works who gets their rent paid and still has 200 a week to spend? Taxes are really high - so I don't appreciate the system at all.
I totally agree that Britain doesn't pay enough. However, pay too much and everyone's happy to be on the dole. There has to be a balance.
