Doesn't really change his point though.

Wrecking an economy and civil liberties for a flu without a vaccine with an average death age near life expectancy is irrational.

Well, how much is 7 years of life per person worth?

Then add on the effects of long covid. And consider what would have happened had we simply allowed the virus to run. Then do an NPV calculation and show your workings.

I am of course no soothsayer but my miniscule cerebral capability foresees a scenario whereby lockdown restrictions are eased prior to the Christmas period resulting in a 'Spike' of infections and 'Lockdown 3' is introduced in the early part of the year which traditionally is a quieter period for the hospitality and retail sectors.

I have previously said this. Restrictions lifted to allow Christmas travel, re-introduced in the New Year

'Long covid' is a misnomer. It's CFS, as I've posted twice before. It is not new. It is also rare.

Here’s a mind bending stat for you. Average age of coronavirus victims in the UK 82.4 years. Average life expectancy in UK = 81.5.

I’d say this presents a clear case for not needing lockdowns at all, and especially not lockdown 2.0.

We’re spending hundreds and hundreds of billions to prop up people who are going to die of something else very soon anyway. A controversial view no doubt, but it’s backed up by the stat above.

I waited to see other responses before making mine. For the sake of argument let's assume these stats are correct, even though they have already been shown not to be.

It's inevitable that the more frail a person is the more likely any kind of infection will tip them over the top so hardly very surprising that most of the deaths are currently in the upper age groups.

What do you expect us to do with such people? Lock them all away from any kind of contact with others? It isn't really practical is it? Many require care and even with their carers being very careful they still get infected, whether in their own or care homes. What then? Leave them there to suffer until they die or take them to hospital? I think they and their families might hold a strong opinion about that.

Then there's everyone else. End the lockdown and infections will obviously increase and so will hospital admissions. On their own they would overwhelm the NHS. Some wouldn't get treatment so even more would die, along with most in the oldest age group.

Then there are all the others unable to access NHS services. Undiagnosed cancer. More deaths.

The whole point of a lockdown is to avoid this happening. It's not just to prolong the lives of a few old people.

Then it appears you posted wrong

They have similarities but are different.

When you say rare, I read 10%. And currently 60,000 have had it for over three months

How would that be if we just ‘let it rip’?
