People will no longer be jailed for possession of any drug but will be issued with a fine.

From the report:
Voters in the state approved Measure 110 on Wednesday, CNN projected, and the initiative also expands access to addiction assistance and other health services, offering aid to those who need it instead of arresting and jailing people for drugs.
Measure 110 passed with 55.8% of the vote.

Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping.

Hubert Reeves

I have never taken drugs, no appeal to me. It obviously wrecks lives so is jail the appropriate solution? Probably not, treatment must be better.

Let's see how this goes if crime and drug comes down then why not. however the drug dealers need to be caught and punished.

When I was young the thought of getting caught, and severely punished for taking/possessing drugs kept me and my mates (mainly) away from the things. Nowdays nobody give a s**t, and kids openly smoke drugs in public, something we would never do. I can only assume this will lead to worse drug problems.

Conversely I think a lot of people try a lot of things for the first time because they're illegal/know they shouldn't and it's the rush of doing something you're not supposed to. Same as trying to get served underage in a pub (a lifetime ago for most on here). If you take away the taboo element it makes it a lot less exciting.

For real. Back in the day you could pick your cigarette accompaniment. Red seal, leb, gold seal and many more. A joint or seven was a gimme for a night out, along with a bottle of amyl nitrate of course. Not much weed back then so no HTC to f*** you up. Not much trouble either tbh.
Oh the halcyon days of youth.
On your point this will lower crime on all fronts.
The price will drop so making it less profitable which in turn will make it less appealing to the big boys. Still small time dealers but without the hardware.

What's the official line on determining what's possession and what is intent to supply?

Can you get caught with a kilo of anything and claim it is for personal use?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

You're not as good at this as me. I said 'I think' so it was fully qualified as a personal opinion.

Have another go.

If you can see off the remainder of whatever you're caught with and still see then possession only.

I think you are spot on. Same with smoking, extremely addictive however why would anyone in the first place start. Tastes bloody awful, however youngsters do it to look cool.
