I mean, did Alan Mullery ever actually go to Rome to see the pope...? Anyway, I've never understood why Sainsburys has to close when we play at home. Surely it would suit them to be open, and do a roaring trade in pies, sandwiches, drinks etc? They might need to control the numbers coming into the shop, but if two young checkout girls can achieve that in my local TESCO when lockdown first started, I'm sure Sainsburys can find someone suitable in their ranks. Noades made more than his fair share back when he sold the club to Goldberg and rented him the ground for £1.2m a year too. Can't really say either had the best interests of the club at heart.

A tortuous process but if the council start the ball rolling we will probably end up buying under threat of CPO and hopefully then at a price both parties can agree to.

The criteria for a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project is very loose. Although, a local authority can do it on a private companies behalf if their are compelling reasons in the public interest, which there are. This is expensive and time consuming. Sainsbury's will probably quote a price at a premium based on how much the club are willing to spend to avoid this.

The latest news signalling the death of the high street convinces me that Palace should make a big play for getting a stadium built in Central Croydon. I used to think it was a silly idea, but if Croydon doesn't do something bold, that whole retail space will become worse than worthless. Build a huge and fantastic stadium, slap bang in the town centre, integrate it with retail, fill 104 days a year...transformative. People no longer need to go to Croydon. They need to be given one. A super stadium in the centre is that reason.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
