I know it might sound laughable to some, just released from West Ham, Roy was his biggest fan, makes Conor Wickham look physically robust, but some cheapish play as you earn deal to get his career on track till the end of the season might be worthwhile. If you could get a tune out of him I'd like to see him alongside Jairo - Wilshere has been quoted as saying it would be a dream to go back to Arsenal, he's either totally deluded or thinks he still can recover his form - the engine's certainly OK it's just the crank shaft gets broken or the wheels fall off. I wager Roy would consider this one if he could get an honest assessment of Wilshere's current physical/medical condition. A punt but maybe worth considering!?!

Would potentially offer us something different to what we have now.

Does make you wonder if West Ham let him go though

Only 17 PL appearances since the start of season 2018/19.
Certainly not the player of old - perhaps all the injuries have taken their toll.

Why has he not been picked up by anyone? Even a short term deal? Or maybe he is asking too much?

Not an area we need to strengthen I don't think. We've already got quality like Meyer not even making the match day squad. Once Luka and McCarthy are fit again...it's an embarrassment of riches. Rather spend the money on finding someone who can put the ball in the net!! (Although I'm also rather hoping that problem will be fixed if/when Wickham gets back.)

Personally I don't view these players in the "Riches" category but I accept others might be of a different opinion.

Absolutely not. No way. He is made of matchsticks and balsa wood being precariously held together with duct tape.

If he is unable to make it as a first team regular at West Ham, he is worthless for Palace.

Okay perhaps calling McCarthy 'riches' is a stretch. At his best, Luka certain is though. But anyway, I meant more that's a lot of central midfielders for a team that's moved to 442.

If one includes Kouyate, 5 of our midfielders are either in their 30s or 30 next year.

Yes, but Wilshire's hardly a spring chicken at 28.

If we can replace our ageing midfield with quality/promising youngsters, fine. But I'm just not sure Wilshire is a good move...

If I could wave a magic wand Luka, McArthur and Meyer would go - I'd only keep Jairo and McCarthy out of our 'embarrassment of (midfield) riches' - I'd then invoke my fairy godmother to relegate Fulham and deliver us Loftus Cheek (might not need her!). Too many scrappers not enough players in our midfield - and Meyer might as well have the fitness record of Conor Wickham for all he's added to us in the last year or so. We might need back up, but there's always Scott Banks knocking on the door, and we already have Schlupp, though he can't play as part of a midfield pair because he is currently the only inside left in world football (he's not a left half).

Personally, I think that's madness. You'd get rid of our captain and one of the few players with true quality...(presumably because his form has dipped a bit)...an absolute linchpin of our side and another player with undoubted quality...with Scott Banks as the back up plan.

Amazing.
