Most individuals in power in Local council nowadays wouldn't get a job in the real world - Croydon isn't the exception sadly - many more will follow.
the amazing thing is that since March they have all furloughed staff and therefore saved millions of pounds in wages - although I accept that nothing has been done either - which they just seem to squander.
Councils now are doing their own Property Development as well.
That is a tough job that takes years to get right so how can they suddenly do it properly - they can't is the answer!
My local council was taken over by the Lib Dems 18 months ago - our local plan was already late when they took over and they have delayed and delayed and absolutely nothing has been done and next May they will likely get thrown out at the elections with still nothing done.
These people do their local areas a huge disservice and they should be prosecuted for some of the stunts that they pull whichever party they represent but instead - as someone else said - they get paid off and get a pension pot as well.
You could not make this S**T up!

In austerity, the government rids itself of its responsibilities to save money, farming them on to councils.

At the same time it reduces government funding to local authorities.

So it is a huge hit, and some councils probably are badly run but they are not concerned with politics mainly just trying to keep going meeting their legal obligations.

At the moment what is their council tax revenue likely to be, it is the last item on my list.

Where does the money come from? Central government? That is a bottomless pit is it?

Mean and out to destroy any community in the more affluent areas.
the joke is, next council election theyll be voted in, no contest, as their are so many ponces that know where the breads buttered.

To be fair, the current leader has only been in the job for 4 weeks so it’s not really her fault the council has run out of money.
There has been financial mismanagement for years.

Did you not listen to the interview, she was part of the old regime and even admitted she made mistakes, would a private company put her in that roll ?

If you didn't please listen to the clip

Didn’t listen mate, just knew she was new to job.

Don’t trust labour with finances. They are also ok until the money runs out.

I have to declare a personal interest in that I know the lady who now leads Croydon. And that whilst I might disagree with her on many, many things in terms of policy for Croydon, I know she is incredibly hard-working and I know she would only have acted in complete good faith.

But that interview is horrendous, no two ways about that but it is clear that she was not prepared properly for it. I have no idea why she decided to step up and put herself up for the job given the s*** storm she must have known was about to break but she did and that must have taken a lot of courage.

Now I have enough self-awareness to admit that if I did not have this personal connection, I would probably be the first to call for her head but she is in a no-win situation and given how central government are now effectively running the borough, she is just there to catch the grief.

I must be going soft in my old age but, and I appreciate it is not always enough, she cannot be faulted for the time and effort she puts into it all.

It's her bloody job! And she made a mess of it the first time, like she admitted her self.
It's an absolute joke.

Were it not policies which has put Croydon where it is? You say you disagree with hers so they must be bad! You are centre right so to be so far apart hers must be left of left. Also Roy works hard!
