Watford have a NET debt of £167m, £79m of that is transfer fees owed to other clubs.

They face a minimum decrease in revenue of at least 50%, possibly more with the lock down.

It would not appear that they are in a strong bargaining position with any club. Post Covid, if Zaha is worth half of Palace's evaluation from last year, Sarr is only worth £15-20m.

I put this down to tabloid click-bait that, judging by the reactions in this thread, still works.

Biggest reason so far he won't come to us. The only way he comes to us is we clear everyone else out with a silly offer they can't refuse - basically forward on the Zaha cash. If there's competition at a good price, he'll go to a 'bigger' side who enter the race in case he is the real deal.

At any kind of reasonable price - Everton, Southampton, Wolves, Arsenal, Newcastle, West Ham would all get involved and on paper we're not the best option of that group.

As others have said, I'd rather we split the Zaha cash on two players who aren't Premier League proven but tick all the other boxes rather than put it on all on red.

Probably, I'm just pointing out that £40m is far fetched.

Yeah possibly, it's a really hard market to gauge until someone makes a significant move and sets the bar somewhere.

£40m for Ake perhaps suggests that a club would go similar money for Sarr? If there's not many wingers around and you get a bit of competition the price could go up.

I think you're probably right though in that the market will be suppressed and Watford will struggle to get it to go that high. Selling someone like Doucoure first might give them the waiting time they need.

Mexican stand off till the first major deal goes through for the mid range clubs I reckon. That’ll set the barometer for how (if at all) COVID has impacted on the Market - Then we’ll see a flurry of activity.
Fingers crossed we make some positive signings and make a few quid selling the high earners who haven’t produced.

I was thinking the same only this morning. However,
1. It may also be the case that many players will now be on holiday (somewhere nice) and won't be signing new contracts for a week or so yet. It will be interesting to see when the transfer activity does take off.
2. Clubs are struggling to work out just how badly Covid 19 will affect their finances. Only the really wealthy clubs like Citeh and Chelsea can get on with transfer business because it won't matter too much to them if they overpay by the odd £10m or so.

Who knows? I seem to remember that Palace made a late bid in the previous window? I believe Watford have a new manager, who might want to keep him as Watford aren't far off the playoffs?

I note that your source thinks Watford play at Carrow Road!

Is he really lighting up the championship though?

16 apps, 1431 mins... Averages playing 89mins/game so basically all 16 apps = 16 full games.
From that 3 goals and 2 assists.

Obviously there's more to a player's game than goals and assists, but I'm looking at an attacking/forward player who was in the Prem and dropped a league down, well if he's worth his salt for the prices being branded around for him, we'll then I'm expecting him to find the championship lightwork and much better stats than the one he's got right now!

Has anyone seen him play this season yet?

We had 2 issues with Sarr in the last window, one was that Liverpool had been speaking to him and he was only looking to move there until they signed Jota. The second was we weren't willing to go near the asking price that Watford wanted.

Liverpool have no money at the moment, so the competition has dropped off on that front. I can't however, see us upping our bid to what they want, especially the disparity between how we would want to structure the payments compared to them wanting most up front.

The fact that he hasn't shined particularly maybe is in our favour? But these are crazy Covid times! Have a good Christmas every/ody!
