Can't think of many - any famous 3-0 away wins at a rival's ground? The only win I remember is Gayle's winner away at Villa a few years back, we lost 3-0 at Brighton in '79 and had small bits of broken glass pelted at us, 3-3 home v Luton '78 (from 3-1 down), can't think of any in the the nineties, anyone got any ideas on our best ever boxing day?

funny you should mention that villa game...i was working at winson green nick at the time, left work and put radio on for the drive home.

passing villa park on the a38 looking at the floodlights a goal flash comes on the radio! never been so gutted to be looking at a floodlit football ground!

Got to be winning 3-0 at home to Millwall in 1962.
Which reminds me that as late as the 1957-8 season, a year after I started watching Palace, we still had successive matches on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. In 1957 we did the double over Brentford, winning 3-0 at home followed by 2-1 away. However in 1951 we had a terrible twin defeat to Brighton, 1-2 at home and 3-4 away. And in 1946 we were paired with Torquay! We won 6-1 at home on Christmas Day then travelled 200 miles to lose 1-2 away n Boxing Day. Madness!
All stats taken from Ian King's wonderful Complete Record, of course.

The right place at the right time

In a funny way I'd go for Millwall at home in 2003. We had all the usual pleasures of hosting their comically, dangerously neanderthal supporters, and lost the game 0-1, but we played brilliantly and could easily have scored six.

It was Dowies first game (I think?) and despite the result leaving us in the relegation zone I left Selhurst that day looking up the table not down. We played a proper front foot old school 442, with a left winger on the left and a right winger on the right, one target man striker and another mobile goalscorer alongside him. Get it wide, get it forward, attack attack attack.

I just knew that if we played even half as well as that for the rest of the season we'd do well and be brilliant to watch too.

Merry Christmas all!
