Benteke is a target man - always has been. To be fair to him he is a terrific header of the ball, but as you suggest, if you don't put crosses in its a bit of a waste of time playing him.

Our crossing might improve if we started playing a right footed player right midfield and a left footed played left midfield. Playing on the opposite flanks was a trend that started when we purchased Townsend, moving Zaha from his natural right to left. Playing Eze on the left and Schlupp on the right these past 2 games is no help to either Benteke or to those players. They just cut back with the ball, or drift in when they don’t have it, and invariably a cross gets floated in. All of which slows out play down.

Absolutely I do. Even with losses in both these games I think he is secure. Over the course of the season he’s shown he can produce enough to get us over the line. The owners will know that. I dont believe the club has any more aspirations than that. I believe they are aware of the issues with the squad and manager, in terms of progression but I don’t think they wish to address it any time soon as long as they have Hodgson who will see us survive.

I think you’re being a little harsh. Our build up play is generally tidy with a lot intricate passing. We have some quality but we’re just missing the final ball which is down to movement. Big Ben needs crosses which we don’t provide.

I will accept that the Villa game and the 2nd half vs Liverpool were a total shower of sh*t.
