Forget talk of strengthening the forward line or splashing the cash on another keeper that may not be used this season.
A bit of much needed pace in the central defence dept. would help see us through to the summer.
Suggestions please??

I agree. I see it as our no 1 priority. Our current best pairing (when fit) are Tomkins and Cahill who are able to compensate for lack of pace by their game reading ability. But that only works if we deny the opposition space behind our back line which means we need to defend deep, which in turn, makes attacking more difficult, It worked for us pre-lockdown last year, but neither of them have been match fit at the same time this season.

As for who. Rumour has it that Chelsea want to offload Christensen. Alternatively a loan move for Tomori (with Batshuayi returning to Chelsea) might work.

Personally I think we require two younger central midfielders. Currently any of the two we choose get overrun by opponents because they are to slow and give away free kicks in dangerous situations because they are off the pace. Partly because they are to old now or aren’t good enough to play in that position. Not saying we don’t need a central defender but midfield is in greater need for replacements.

I’d like a no-nonsense Eastern European style defender that would iron out the niceties and ruffle a few feathers. Forget the ‘ball playing centre back’ that everyone seems to be obsessed with. The likes of Vidic spring to mind.

I'd take either of the lesser unwanted Chelsea centre backs, Tomori or Christiensen.

Why not a capable CH from our U23's, WOODS.

Yes, i know most if not all will state he's unproven, inexperienced at this level, so was Zaha, AWB to name 2. How will he get experience if he doesnt play, OR, would you rather he waits till he's 26 & finally leaves?

Dont get me wrong, RH wont use him, or anyone else from the U23's, as in his mindset, he doesnt trust them, that is working against what Parish is trying to achieve with the academy,

Anyhoo, just a suggestion

He's been generally solid in the U23s this year and should be given a chance. We may just get to see him in the FA Cup (hopefully). He should, though, be given a chance in the PL alongside someone like Tomkins or Cahill.

Agreed.

He will/does need an experienced player alongside him, in his recent outing for the U23's he had Thommo, who, imo, was letting him take the lead in that partnership, that must be invaluable & a morale booster for him.

There's a big no nonsense CB at Charlton but he's not Eastern European.

In all honesty, the Turks have been producing many a good defender in that Eastern European style of recent years, Demiral at Juventus, Soyoncu who Leicester are currently enjoying and I'd add Ozan Kabak who is very good despite being in a Schalke team that's got off to a poor start in the league (and as such perhaps would want out?)

Another with huge potential is Brazilian/Serb at Torino Lyonco, fits the model of being young and still with a good price tag. Has the ability to beat high pressing teams with calmness, can piss about a bit though (and if Liverpool buy Bremer he wouldn't be available.)

Personally though somebody from the Championship might be a safer option, Rico Henry from Brentford for example.
