I was very reluctant in signing the guy given his previous woes but came on board once it became apparent that it was structured as a short-term deal.

If this was a "real job" then I'd say he's probably passed his probation. Don't get me wrong, I don't actually think he's actually been that great and in some ways I would prefer Ward to play over him (unless we're facing a tricky speedy winger), but an 18 month extension deal on reasonable wages (heard we're currently paying him £80k/week so that needs to drop!) would be okay. He's currently 29 turning 30 next April so he doesn't fully align on the long-term strategy on signing younger players, but I suspect a few in the team older than him already will be moved on in the summer which by default would lower the squad's average age assuming we don't sign further older replacements.

We've got such a rebuild job in the Summer especially with the inevitable scenario of Zaha leaving, so we need to be a bit shrewd on our contract extensions and urgent areas for strengthening both team and squad.

Clyne makes a decent enough squad player if the wages are right

Clyne and Mitchell (right & left) will do any given game for me!

Commentator said it was just a slight strain/precautionary measure. Should be fine for the next game.

As limited as Ward is going forward we are a better team with him in it. In my opinion it will be a mistake to give Clyne a contract beyond this seasons end.

Much will depend on whether Ferguson is ever fit enough and robust enough to take his place. Also, if Ferguson does make it and if the coaching team decide he'd make a good CB, we might decide to keep Clyne as a RB.

I wouldn't, therefore write Clyne off at this juncture.

Extend it I reckon. A nice bit of experience

Surely a no brainer. Extend. Doesn’t look like we will see Ferguson any time soon. Ward / Clyne both dependable and experienced right backs.

Anyone know his contract position? Thought it expired tomorrow.

Clyne has signed new contract to the end of the season.

I think he has done okay for us and hopefully as he gets more game time will even improve.

No sign of this Ferguson character then ?

Must be some doubt as to whether he will ever play again.

I think Hodgson said Ferguson was doing some form of training now, so there may be hope, yet.
