If you don't know what you're doing be careful, because you need to know how to keep it in tune. Think about starting on a clarinet - fingering is similar, and much easier to learn on.

Chris123 is right. Get a clarinet first. Much cheaper to purchase, and easier to learn on. IMHO it has a nicer sound too, but it is definitely the way to start.

Have lessons first.... and try clarinet and trumpet first. I reckon it tough so don't go throwing your dosh away unless your loaded.

get a job doing classical music in an orchestra. that way, you get to sit for two hours, and only bang out a couple of notes all night.
