I liked the look of Mateta as well, chipped in at times and made some good runs which weren't used often enough

It's a team game not a one man game. I suggest you go and take a look at his stats here is some which matter 19/20 4 goals and 5 assists

Cahill and Dann too slow for the PL, Luka just awful having once been my favourite player. We now know why PvA doesn't play in midfield. On the positive side Eze is really growing into the PL and looks class even in a poor performance. I also think Mateta could possibly link well with Wilf as he showed a few neat touches and is quicker than Tekkers. Hard to gauge how good he is really though as he had no balls to him in the box all night. Tonight our injuries made a touch job harder and we never looked like we believed we could win. Leeds were more sensible and just played keep ball at the back making it frustrating as a viewer as no one put any pressure on them (which given the ice skating rink was surely worth doing). Looks like we might be literally limping over the line.

Tactics wrong, attitude wrong, if we go on a run like the end of last season which is very possible we are relying on all the bottom 3 not picking up a few wins and draws, next season unless something changes we are down. That's what we do every season.

Townsend made a big difference, good injection of pace, their pitch surface seemed slippery and not conducive to flowing football but we were quite awful tonight, probably as bad as it can get, way too slow to release the ball and half the time we did it went straight to a Leeds player ..really really bad Palace and to think in that first half we didn't play one decent ball into their box for our new striker, both times we did it was no where near him, Townsend was the only one I'd keep out of that lot.

Leeds won't have an easier game all season. Felt so sorry for Riedewald, he seemed to be the only midfielder we had up against 3 or 4 Leeds players. Shocking display.

I wouldn't mind as much if we came off 2 good wins where we played well but ... we were pretty fortunate against Newcastle.. they had the lion share of the possession and chances .. and against wolves we somewhat undeservedly came out with 3 points in one of the worst matches known to man.
