Give Butland a chance. The stats aren't lying - we're seeing it with our own eyes.

and if he turns out to be s***e (quite possible given that he hasnt played much, and he'll still have the same s***e defence in front of him), then what?

I don't care what these stats say, Guaita has probably been best. or at least most consistent, player this season. Signing him up for a new contract was our best move for a while.

Agreed. Pretty much the last of our worries IMO.

Last season prior to the pandemic (3/20) by the same metric he was the top keeper in Europe.

I'm glad we re-signed him.

Just what I was going to say

Stats can be twisted all over the place

But shot difficulty to saves made is the main one that counts

For example, Guaita had 7 goals against him v Liverpool that a goalie had zero chance of saving

Spot on. The problem isn’t the keeper. He has 10 people in front of him and a Manager setting out tactics. Tactically and defensively we have been poor and easy to work out. We don’t change our style, we buy players that can possibly do something different but deploy them in exactly the same tired way.

I saw him in the park with his family this evening. Looked awfully cold.

He's a stunning shot-stopper with incredible reactions but he just doesn't dominate his goal- never mind the area. He's just not tall enough. Butland is well worth a go.

teams are definitely targeting us at corners now as he never comes off his line. Burnley's goal was a classic - just get it in the 6 yard box and any header will almost always result in a goal.
Same with DeGea at Man U - teams will target these weaknesses.
We look like conceding at almost every corner now so this is clearly something that needs sorting asap. Doesn't help if centre backs lose their men repeatedly too - in recent games Dann and Cahill have both been guilty of this repeatedly

Dunk, Webster and the 6ft 7in Burn of Brighton are a real threat in the air at set-pieces.

Poor old Vicente!

'Even Guaita struggling for listless Palace'

(Times headline in the Burnley match report'

He has sunk further in the Times keeper listings.
The stats say he has now let in 10.8 more goals than he should. Miles behind Patricio and McCarthy.
Nick Pope streets ahead with plus 7.2 goals.

They also say he has conceded same number of goals as last season but in 11 fewer games.

Life ain't fair and it is far from his fault.

I read this report too and you're right, it is unfair when he gets such scant support from his defenders.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
