With respect I don't subscribe to the view that he failed "Miserably".
He signed the likes of Trippier,Mee,Ings and Vokes.I believe Ings and Vokes scored over 40 goals between them to help Burnley back to the PL.
He also had some family issues whilst at the club - It was the death of his mother which was the reason he decided to leave Burnley.

Using the same parameter of past managers record. Roy got Fulham to a European Cup final, got nowhere near that with us. You can only go on latest record and Howes isnt great.

I was responding to the charge that Howe "Failed miserably" at Burnley.

Howe's record in taking Bournemouth from the lower reaches to the PL and keeping them there for a few seasons is worthy of credit.
They played some delightful football along the way and the hospitality that was afforded to me in their 'Bubbles' champagne bar on more than one occasion was splendid !

Eddie Howe's odds to become the next Palace manager have shortened drastically today following a formal approach by the club. Roy is on his final chance next Monday evening. Another spineless performance like the last and apparently he will be gone as early as Tuesday morning.

Jason Tindall will join as his assistant having recently left his post at Bournemouth.

You heard it here first!!!

Let's hope he manages the ladies team.

I can’t see us sacking Roy, not when we’re a handful of points from safety, I’m sure no matter how bad it might get, as in getting thumped by Brighton and beaten by Fulham, SP will stick with him to grind out the points we need and then let him walk away in the summer

If there's anything to this rumour, why now? Parish could have amicably not renewed Hodgson's contract at the end of last season (the writing was on the wall given the way the last 8 games weren't competed for, a sign of what was to come) and we could have gone into this season afresh.
The only thing I can conclude is that if Howe does come in and those players who are currently going through the motions suddenly start to put a shift in, then Hodgson's motivational skills must surely be questioned.
Realistically 10/12 points should make certain. A few wins and draws one would hope are achievable with the fresh impetus of an enthusiastic new manager.

If, and it's a big if, the rumour is true perhaps there's already an understanding that Howe is to take over at the end of the season.
However, Parish may be alarmed by the prospect of a defeat on Monday and another losing run which Hodgson presided over at the end of last season.
In which case he could have contingency plans to appoint Howe earlier after the Brighton game rather than at the end of the season.
All speculation but it wouldn't seem unreasonable for Parish to have plans if we continue to look so clueless and rudderless on the field.
Another poster previously highlighted Hodgson's situation at Blackburn where the then chairman Jack Walker had to put Hodgson out of his misery and fire him despite Hodgson believing he had the players behind him and that his methods were working.
An interesting parallel.

That may have been me.

"Blackburn's owner gave him the chance to resign honourably, but he refused to do so, leaving the club with no option but to dismiss him: "To Blackburn's honour, Jack Walker wanted me to resign, he wanted to still pay for the rest of my contract. He said, 'Why don't you resign? You've had enough, it's not working out.' I refused to do that, arrogant of course as I was in those days. I thought if they stuck with me I'd save them from relegation. I do think that the players were very much still with me, so I couldn't resign because that would be a suggestion that in some way I was doing something or something was happening which I didn't see to be the case or the truth. I gave him no choice but to sack me"

Most telling is this part - "I couldn't resign because that would be a suggestion that in some way I was doing something or something was happening which I didn't see to be the case or the truth"

Without our one man team,Wilf, afraid to say we are in for an inevitable spineless, gutless performance, maybe leading to Hodgson's removal.
Defeat is on the cards in these circumstances, may as well get on with things and appoint Howe now to give him maximum time to keep us up and enjoy the new manager bounce.

I am not the greatest admirer of Eddie Howe but, in all honesty, he can do no worse than Roy Hodgson.

The manager is looking tired, dispirited and seemingly clueless as to what to do.
He persists with the same set-up and the same discredited players, unwilling to experiment with a new formation.

It does look like he has 'lost the dressing room' as the players seem aimless and unmotivated.

It would make sense to bring someone in now, perhaps as Hodgson's assistant (if he would accept one) to give the new man time to make plans for next season.

It would be a shame to sack Hodgson now, his contract expires in June, but we must plan for the future NOW.

Unfortunately any further spineless defeats and Mr Parish will have no alternative. His misplaced blind loyalty to the 'old man' is holding us back.

We are not yet safe and with Fulham showing signs of a revival we cannot be complacent.

I'm not saying you're correct as a matter of fact of course but I certainly agree with most of what you've said.

I do not think Howe would be a disastrous appointment although others seem to, and I don't quite understand when people suggest bringing in someone as an assistant or 'moving Roy upstairs' - they're managers and should either be in post or not as far as I am concerned.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I have never especially liked Howe, but if he got us playing like Bournemouth then that would surely be more entertaining?

With regard to whether Parish would move now rather than the summer I could see two reasons why he might do so:

1) to avoid the risk of him to Celtic, Newcastle, or someone else

2) to give Howe time to assess the squad before the summer and to start instigating his own plans and methodology, knowing 6 more points would probably be enough (and as such less pressure than starting cold in August)

One possible third reason is that Parish decides Hodgson doesn't have the physical or mental energy to finish the season. He has looked tired the last couple of games and that must be a real concern with a third of the season left to play.
