I, too am a pre- Mullery-Venables spat supporter and have never really bought into the so-called 'El Gatwicko' derby idea. For me our rivals have always been London clubs and especially those South of the River.

Me to, Millwall, was the big rival, Charlton, though close were mostly in a higher league. The Brighton thing , was contrived somehow.. It never got a mention and I had family in both camps.

I'd imagine Parish will do with the letter what most people in power, authority, or a position of responsibility do. Ignore it, or pretend to not ignore it whilst ignoring it.

Some of this will be down to a touch of arrogance and defensiveness, traits all human beings have. Partly it will be due to the practical consideration that democracy and mass involvement in decision making doesn't result in effective organisations.

In the main though it will be down to the long-established, plainly evident fact of the matter: That however articulate or passionate the complaint, the vast majority of people complaining from the outside of an organisation know next to f*** all about how to run it in the real world.

The same people investing their money, thoughts, love, and just about life into said club.
Should they need to know how its run to feel sad and have an opinion.

Something to do with a shrinking world maybe.?

Not at all, I certainly do.

But I don't expect Parish, Freedman or Hodgson to pay any real attention to my views, and quite rightly so. It's not that they are more competent than me (though they might be), or that they have achieved enough to be above question (though they have achieved a huge amount). It's simply that they know the club, the business, the finances, the people, all to an extent I cannot possibly do.

1) Small clubs playing anti-football less likely to be relegated and small clubs playing pretty football more likely to be relegated and the issues with making the change and making that change in the top flight.

2) Interviewing Eddie Howe.

3) Your point above, only the immediate issue at the present time is something the whole football community can see, before how the owners run the club. We’ve gone from keeping it tight and 0-0 to try and nip a goal and hold out, to shipping goals in right after the opposition have had 12 touches of the ball. The players and management team need to sort it out and quickly before we get to facing that run in of matches.

I agree completely, improvement in performances is needed, and effort seems a part of that. If we were in the ground on match days we could vent that, and the players would hear it, so I get the need to tell them in some other way.

My concern is that the letter goes on to cover the wider running of the club, transfer policy, investment, tactics and stuff like that. I would expect the club to roll their eyes and ignore that stuff.

I think the issues with the Manager and the players performances are the effect, and the way the club has been run, the cause.

Yes, they can choose to ignore part if not all of the letter, but it needed to be said.

I have been watching Palace since the fourth division days and Millwall were always without doubt the rivals, proper rivals and the crowds used to show up to confirm it.I remember 36000 at Selhurst before all seater days.
However more to the point, the football for a long while has been tedious lacking determination, inspiration, motivation and perspiration since Bolasie/Murray/Cabaye days.
Just before the pandemic, was returning from Zurich on a flight and was sat near to Arsene Wenger (post Arsenal) and I asked him (Jokingly) if he was interested in coming south of the Thames to Selhurst, His reply was are you not happy with the football there and I said it was invariably not easy to watch at selhurst. He said that an enormous amount of money is at stake being in the EPL and that is a priority.
I mentioned that we tried under FDB but failed miserably to which Wenger said that he thought he wasnt given much of a chance!!! Wenger also said he misses football management.( Id be happy to have him at Selhurst as manager)
However I think that's the point, staying in the premier league which Roy has achieved and that's what he has been employed to do.

Having spent most of my life supporting Palace in the lower leagues I have no fear of relegation if it means we can build on young players and passing football.
We pay professional footballers enormous amounts of money who fail to pass the ball intelligently and or accurately. In my opinion that has to be the starting point. 'Right on Ultras'

The bit in the letter/statement about losing games without a fight, and a lack of leadership and pride on the pitch is fair on recent performances (and recent performances alone by the way), and I’m sure many of us would make a similar point, loudly, if in the ground this season.

Otherwise, the statement certainly doesn’t speak for me, even though I think I’ve earned the title of a ‘committed supporter’ by now.

I don’t want the ultras, or even the wider fan base having a say on formations or team selections thanks. We’ve all got our opinions, but that's all they are.

Give youth a chance they cry! Not a single one of us has the experience, knowledge and access to say that a single one of our youth team would improve our first team. Not one. It’s a classic statement of its type: A big sweeping, crowd pleasing demand made from a position of absolutely no knowledge, or responsibility for the outcome.

The idea of there being a ‘Palace way’ is odd. What's that then? Is it as meaningless and vague as the West Ham way, or the Spurs Way? Always thought that stuff sounded like total bollocks personally.

Which youth was 'put front and centre' of the promotion side the statement cites as a true example of The Palace Way exactly? Zaha, and, um, oh that's right, nobody else at all. Salako and Shaw were the only youth players in the 1990 side. Dowie got us promoted without a single youth team graduate, and of that team only Black and Grey were even young. Still, it sounds good when you say it, so that'll do.

The complaint of having no ambition or vision is just utter s***e. As several people have posted on here, the club has outlined, and made progress on a clearly defined, realistic long term strategy. One might not like the strategy, but to say it doesn’t exist is the kind of ridiculous ignorance that gets public opinion ignored. Personally I hope Parish sticks with his eminently sensible strategy come what may. He has achieved as much if not more than any chairman in palace history. Still, better to have a pop though eh?

‘We must...use this opportunity with so many expiring contracts to make substantial changes across the club’. Good idea. Lets release all 12 of them, and have whip round for the £70m or so it would cost to replace even half of them. Oh hang on, what's that calling us? Oh, it's the real world, asking us to come back...

Absolutely.
The football might not be easy on the eye but the end has justified the means.

Reasonable points. There's obviously a great sense of frustration at our uninspiring, half-hearted performances. Imagine if grounds were open and this protest found its way into the stadium? Banners unfurled, chants of Hodgson Out! Parish Out!? Who knows where it might lead. The management and players ought to take heed. It's easy for them to hide behind an empty stadium, yet it would be counter productive in the long run for any such protest to grow wings. I doubt it would make much a difference to those players whose contracts are up anyway, they already seem to have an eye on the exit door if their lack of effort is anything to go by.
