There is a general misunderstanding of the British Monarchy. People think that they should trace back to Alfred. However, for instance, George III was 42nd in line to the throne, the other 41 were Catholic.
Henry VII (the first Tudor King) had no real claim to the throne other than the most tenuous connection, yet how famous are the Tudors?
Various people killed each other, died or didn't have children. Do any research on the Norman's, The Angevins, The Plantagenet and you will find a King (even a Queen hidden in there) with no claim to the throne, except for luck, power or balls.
In that respect, probably most of us have as legitimate a claim to the throne as anyone else. The difference is, you can no longer go and take the throne through force.
The other difference now is that Parliament actually declares the King or Queen. In that respect, they could refuse to ratify Charles as King, and choose William, for example. They won't, they'll do what Elizabeth Regina says, but they would be well within their legal rights. Otherwise, what was the point in Cromwell? Other than basically being very boring and quite ugly.
Just wanted this rant as these notions of royalty annoy me. Particularly when you hear some Aussie sheep worrier is the 'true' King etc. We could all wheel out a hundred others, if we looked.

I wasn't ignoring your response, Wisbech. It's just taken me a few days to process what you posted. Firstly, thank you for responding.

As these med beds will be the most historic and significant development in the future health of the human race, it puzzled me as to what type of person would be so indifferent to this story.

I know your words didn't pour scorn on med beds, it's the fact that you did your usual fact-checking trick on the story. That's what threw me.
