When was the last time you really enjoyed a Live Match, home or away as a Palace fan in the stadiums. Never been a fan of live TV as like many fans, I would rather be there as its a truly great experience. So please keep this to being in a stadium... Bout a year ago. Last home game. Doubt I’ll ever experience it again sadly.

My best one was probably when we beat Man U 5-1.

That nostalgic nod to the past will ring true for many Palace fans who were introduced to Selhurst by grandparents and parents. Not me as my father was a Charlton supporter. I did take him to Selhurst Park the once though. It was Boxing Day 1972 and we were playing Southampton whom we beat 3-0 with goals from John Craven and a brace from the great Don Rogers. I wanted to take him again as a lucky charm but he wasn't a great footie fan so never came with me any more but I did start taking my young cousin on a regular basis whom all those years later is now a season ticket holder and friends with many of you but out of respect for him I won't name him

THAT Palace v Liverpool match: enjoyed the game, enjoyed coming back from 0-3 down, and really enjoyed seeing Suarez cry like a baby...... and enjoyed it all in the very enjoyable company of Slovenia Dave! wasn't that something to see them physically beat, emotionally destroyed and in tears at the end of the game. I remember the noise got so loud during that match it was like there was a sonic boom cracking in the air or something that elevated the roar of the crowd to something beyond a sound that humans can make. Must have been quite an experience to be on the pitch no matter which team you were on.

Your post and the OP have combined to bring a particular memory to mind. I don't know that it was the last time I enjoyed a live Palace match as such, but I reckon the most intense emotion I ever experienced at a game was when Puncheon scored in the cup final. I went to Wembley in 1990 with my Dad and his Dad, who as a boy had been at the famous White Horse final (in 1923 I think?). We sat behind the goal Wright scored his second goal into, quite high up. The image of that day has remained burned into my memory. The pitch, the noise, the colour. I was a young season ticket holder by then, and was at every game on the cup run bar Cambridge, but this was something else. I particularly remember the singing of Abide with me. I'd never heard it before, and it went straight through me. Fast forward a quarter of a century and there I am, behind the goal Wright scored his second into, quite high up. Abide with me is being sung, followed by a colossal, emotional noise from the Palace end. Fair play to the fanatics for the display that day, and to everyone for the support we gave. This time I'm with my own son. My Dad was going to be there and complete the cycle, but he was poorly with cancer treatment by then and just couldn't do it. I was thinking of him, and of a mate of mine, a big Palace fan who was, though only in his fourties, also dying of cancer and in his last days. We don't all get to hang around to see these games, I thought to myself. Later, on what was literally his last night, that dying friend told me that he had, in fact, been there in a wheelchair, with his Dad, and medical equipment. When Puncheon scored... Well, it was more than a goal to me. It's all that stuff isn't it? I mean, I do wish we could play better football and win more often, but that's only secondary really. Anyway, what? No, shut up, I've just got dust in my eye that's all. COYP, as they say.
Two really telling posts. In particular for all of us older fans. For most it’s not just the great games remembered. It’s the whole experience, and the people who shared it with us. Many have moved on loving Palace, warts and all. Yet that experience never changes beyond sharing it with a new generation. And I get the feeling it’s not all about the club, but about the club, in that area, it is for me.

I have happy experiences of away days at (stops to turn head to one side and spit from the back of the throat) Vicarage Road. The pick was a 3-1 there with Paul Hart as manager - 3-0 up, I think Sean Scannel was playing his best stuff then, 'going down are we f*ck, minus 10 and staying up' - each goal was met with increasingly insane pandemonium.

Thats the one for me also Becks , Made it even better that they thought they were going to beat us by 6 goals and win the league . Another one cant remember when it was but i think it was a FA cup semi against scummerpool Ian wright and Mark Bright think we beat them 3-2 .

I can’t say I enjoyed that game. But boy did I shout the house down when Tekkers scored. Talk about smash and grab. I haven’t stopped laughing since.

I completely get this. For me the football is almost secondary, it’s the occasion and sense of tradition. For myself it started by going with my grandad, following them in the late seventies, he was a lovely man who is always in my thoughts. Over the years I’ve been with all manner of people, ex girlfriends, old mates, many who I have lost touch with over the years and now I go with a great little bunch of lads including my own son. When I think of all the people who have come and gone over the years, the funny thing is, Palace are one of the few constants in my life.
Like you, I now meet up with my son. He buys me beer these days and I can remember holding his hand in the early days of taking him to Selhurst - bit embarassing really, he was in his late twenties (only joking son). The last live game I really enjoyed was beating Bournemouth 1-0 at home last season. Sakho got sent off after about 15 minutes and it was real backs to the wall stuff (a bit like tonight) and then Jeff Schlupp scored in the middle of the second half. Somehow we hung on to take the win. It felt like we'd won the league or something. I guess I've learnt to cherish the highs and tonight was certainly another. My wife on the other hand completely underwhelmed. "Oh that was good then" was about all she could manage. I've also got the pleasure of bumping into the many seaweed fans around where I live for the next few days. Cue us to lose to Fulham now.
