As some of you may have noticed, I'm in full reminiscing mode at the moment. When you get to my age, coupled with the present unpleasantness outside, it actually becomes therapeutic. Anyway, I've just loaded a new, well, very old but new to me, 45 into my jukebox and it set me thinking about the first record I bought. There was a record store by Wallington Green where you could listen to records in a booth to decide whether or not to buy. I'd saved up some cash from my paper round and entered this store filled with some trepidation and having not finally decided on my purchase. Having browsed for a while I came out clutching a copy of Cathy's Clown by the Everley Brothers which I still have. It was 1960. So, I wonder what record you first bought? I'd be interested, purely out of historical curiosity. Or should that be hysterical? I don't know anymore. If you'd prefer I didn't bother you with this stuff please say so. I'll just go off in a huff.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Antmusic, I think. I'm not sure if it was exactly bought or there was some sort of saving coupons from somewhere that you could redeem for a single at Woolies type thing.

You may be right. I didn't buy any, but my old man bought All Shook Up by Elvis on 78 - unfortunately it had an accident. Shame because they're rare and worth a few bob these days. I have still got Davey Crockett on a Woollies Embassy label 78 though (and a few others I'm too ashamed to mention).
