I agree with this and Benteke deserves to start based on his cameo at Brighton. Mateta still has a lot to learn about holding up the ball.

I think if we're going to renew Bentenke's contract then fine, but if not then let's focus on the future and look to sustain Mateta's confidence.

I lazily agreed with the 1-1 result but want to review. I think the game will go more like:

Concede 65% possession
Fulham get shots in a plenty.
None really trouble Guita.
HOL thread almost combusts with posters saying FFS we're playing Fulham not Bayern Munich.
We win 1 - 0 with one of only 6 shots, 2 on target.
Roy Out thread passes 400 pages...

I would take each and every one of these things in a heartbeat!

Agreed, but we also need to take care over the number of starts he has in case things don’t work out and we have to send him back. I have no issue with giving Benteke another years contract. Send Bats back and we have 2 centre forwards and Ayew as a makeshift alternative.

Agreed re Benteke. I've been saying for a while that retaining him for a few more years might not be our worst option, though only if he'll accept a reduced wage, perhaps with incentives (goal bonus probably - be interesting to see how many he gets then!).

Keep him on the same terms however and we're just rewarding failure and setting a bad example to the others.

Surely not on the same salary. Just because, for once, he kicked the ball correctly at goal for the first time in years. I'd offer him no more than £30K pw which is still a huge wedge.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

Wasn’t his salary reduced last time we extended his contract?

You have to assume that the more extreme defensive tactics on show at the Amex will also be in place on Sunday since they "worked".

Fulham will come at us and, assuming no Wilf, our means to break will be similarly constrained.

My sense is:
Fulham have more attacking edge at the moment than Brighton but aren't quite so good at controlling a game

We are unlikely to be so fortunate again

Ipso facto, 0-2. A goal in the first half, a goal in the second.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Couldn't say for sure of course, but I thought not, same terms for one more year, although that's based on nothing more than the usual speculative websites etc.

I don’t usually bet on football but I notice that Fulham are favourites for the win, and we are 13/5? Surely we’ve got a decent chance

You could be right of course, but I'd say Fulham have laboured to win games. Lots of draws, Everton it appears rolled over for them!!! Sheffield U they struggled with. Same attitude as Brighton should at least get us a draw, be better at keeping the ball and who knows !!!

... what
