It already has structural problems in terms of opposition to its wokeness so this could split it in half. However, and this is me going out on a limb here, I wonder if Westminster is dangling a lucrative job in front of Salmond's nose? Wheels within wheels. And having his own Highland Clearance no doubt.

Another good post Matov and you are correct Peerages, Ambassadors or BBC Chairman or EU has always been a good way of keeping the malcontents quiet but the SNP doesn't have that much pork to dish out. I suspect that Alex will do a Samson and bring down the temple and bugger the consequences. As others have said Nationalists tend to be just this side of fanatics.

Its an updated version of Macbeth. When will Burnham Wood move to Dunsinane? They are all locked in and cannot get free without damaging themselves. On the charges AS was found not guilty on all of them, a prosecution of 14 charges it is a difficult stretch of the imagination to concede that they were not made with malign intent. All it needs is a scottish goalkeeper.

Not proven, entirely different to not guilty. Both exist in Scottish Law. Also was only charged on a selection of cases. There were eight women who had made allegations in total. They can't have all been Sturgeon's stooges - or could they? I've always thought the whole episode a bit fishy.

Throw in the 'balance' of a variety of chips on both shoulders and you have a society ideally placed to throw up these kinds of tragedies. Add the kind of soft-focus view that many on the wider left have endowed onto what is an ardently nationalist organisation and you have this very Shakespearian situation playing out with nobody in England able to actually play the situation to their benefit. The Tories cannot touch it with a barge-pole given the demands for another referendum and Labour are still in a collective sense of shock at losing what was close on to 40 seats it considered 'safe', probably meaning it can never obtain a majority in the UK again. Except I cannot envisage Ms Sturgeon ever getting an attack of the guilts and wandering around trying to wash imaginary blood off her hands. Far too cold and scheming, even more so than the much-maligned Lady M. Personally I would put her on par with Livia Drusilla of 'I Clavidus' fame.

Surely if they do declare independence in the misguided hope of staying in the EU, just imagine how much we can charge them for using English road and rail networks. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of Scots won't go for it unless Sturgeon changes the voting age to include infants.

Everytime I hear about this SNP falling out between Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon I have to regularly reread his name to stop myself from thinking that it's only inter-fish rivalry.
