We've all heard this rolled out time and time again.

It's true of course but does it feel like it?

As it is we are by far the least watchable team in the PL. And that's not just this season. Football's the most popular sport on the planet for a reason.

The masters of the PL must be praying we get relegated because we devalue their product.

Our obvious priority is survival. That has been achieved so far. How long can this last? Consider the chaos that may ensue in July. For most of us it's been a case of "let's get 40 points, then we can relax" every year.

So OK we've been in the top flight for the longest time in our history. It's hardly been successful though has it.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

It has been a very successful period for the club, it's very easy to forget sometimes and as a result not play it into considerations. People are not completely wrong for pointing this out when people moan.

As for feeling it however, you're right. I often also hear/see people state the old 'would you rather we be in administration again or worse etc' which again is a valid point however recent performances have left me feeling as though we may as well have ceased to exist, I don't feel as though I am watching a 'Palace team play football', there's very rarely anything to even cheer or get excited about yet you still waste your time getting your hopes up or watching!

It has been of course extremely nerve wracking at times, which for me was ironically more enjoyable, but of late it has been tedious, beyond dull and completely uninspiring.

The hope, from my perspective anyway, is that we may have to endure this for (even) longer term prosperity as a club and maybe, just maybe, a turn in fortunes/circumstances is on the horizon for the medium and short term.

I would love to be in a position next season, as a season ticket holder (of far too many years now) to be travelling back to the mecca of Selhurst full of adrenaline and enthusiasm on match days once again, win lose or draw!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

At the moment you might aswell just follow our results and check the league table that's as exciting as it gets, only thing to get excited about is the amount of players out of contract so the club have no other option but to have a massive overhaul. Its inevitable we will get relegated at some point just a shame after 9 years and zaha one of the best players outside the top 6 the closest we've come to Europe was our fa Cup final.

I just want to see us have one season in Europe then I couldn't care less. Who actually cares if we're playing Chelsea or Chelmsford still get the same emotions watching us play.

Expectations have changed (as they should) but that is why we don’t feel like it. My friend is a Ipswich Town fan and he often goes on about how lucky we are, keeping hold of your best players and seeing your team win at old Trafford.

I remember leaving Wembley after the play off final and just asked for a minimum 5 years in the prem. if you would have offered me 9 and a cup final, I wouldn’t have believed it.

However, like anything the novelty wears off and expectations increase. When we are back in the championship, we will talk about these times for ever. The highs and lows. We will talk to our grandchildren about Wilf on the wing and his passion. Talking about some of the great away days. The good old days, we will call them.

Highest points total in the top division since 1992. That’s THIRTY YEARS AGO. The club is moving forward (slowly) and I agree, performances have been poor.

However, reviewing our history it could be another generation before it is this good again.

For me the important thing is not just whether this long stay in the top flight has been enjoyable (I think it has, just about overall) but what it means for the long term future.

Parish and Co saved the club, and were all set to keep the books balanced and the the business sustainable as a championship club. An unexpected promotion and an even more unexpected survival could have led to reckless spending, corporate ego trips, and a big mess in the end, with the club worse than it was to start with.

Instead, these years have left us not only some great memories, famous wins, and an increased profile both locally and commercially, but also with a genuine legacy in the form of the training ground and the academy. Both make us a far better asset in the long term, and both were accomplished by being in the Premier league.

The chances of there being a crystal palace to watch in 10, 20 or 30 years time have increased significantly as a result of this recent period in our history. That's got to be the true success of it all, surely?

Thanks for saying this. It's something we all tend to forget. I know people are upset and angry and lashing out but I do believe there is a plan, we're just not party to it. We'll have to see if it works in the coming months given the 'challenges' but at least we will still be a club with a pulse.

Due to the failure of one big money striker and one big money defender along with many others who enjoy the physio room well too much, we have a very dysfunctional squad and it is until this is sorted that we'll have to put up with it, In another two seasons our squad is going to look a lot different, it's not very difficult to understand that until then our performances are not going to improve hugely.

it's been our most prosperous financially, in terms of money coming in. But, it hasn't really been successful when it all goes back out again or unable to invest it.

I would count 2001 - 2008 as our most successful in terms of playing football.. 4 top 10 finishes In our respective leagues.

What is success? finishing top 10 in a league or a league above and finishing 17th.

I would take the former - I am not enjoying this.

I agree with what you have said apart from achieving everything without corporate ego trips as our chairman has certainly used his position to increase his own profile

our wage budget next year will go from 80m to about 35 with most of the key players still under contract, this has to be the plan bring in 5/6 players that are younger and cheaper, i think there will be a lot o free transfer bargains available, so with now under six months left on contracts you can approach players whose contract is expiring, it would be nice to think we have at least a couple lined up, but maybe i am living in a fantasy world
