I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this, but I think Luka had a huge hand in that point thanks to his "off the ball work". Repeatedly throughout the game he was pushing, stepping on and tripping Fernandes, but nearly always when he was out of possession and not being watched by the ref. It was never anything that bad, but enough to get inside Fernandes's head and disrupt his game, with the little Portuguese clearly growing increasingly frustrated. Without their puppet master United looked really flat, especially with their two holding midfielders producing some woeful passing.

I have given Luka a lot of stick this season as his passing and possession has been awful and his lack of pace resulting in numerous bookings; however, I would actually give him MOTM in what was a solid team performance, as without his job on Fernandes it might have been a different story. While all the pundits were saying United were flat, I think personally that we just realised that you stop Fernandes you stop United.

I would also note that what Luka did is basically what nearly every team does against Wilf (ie fouling him when he's not in possession to wind him up).

He did a great job on Fernandez, Fernandez, is a great player, a little bit off it lately, but it takes nothing from Luca, shutting him down time and again last night.
For the entertainment crowd on here he has no appeal , but every team needs a Luca, doing all the get your hands dirty work.

That was because United didn’t press, as recent opponents have. And the room was there to play in. I agree with just a bit more threat we could have won that. So many of their team, looked off it. They were there for the taking , compared with most years.

Completely agree. We suffered against Fulham particularly as they pressed us, and we couldn't get past that press very often. United drop off and play on the counter, so we get a bit more ball.

Spurs play the same way, so fingers crossed for another hard earned, dull nin-nil.

Very true although they are capable of a bit of a press. I thought against them at SP was one of our better performances this season actually, if we get another point from this game it would represent two very good results in my book

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Annoying bbc sport refer to manure dropping points and need to find spark. Surely Palace deserve praise

Luca seems to have one good out of three/four average and below outings these days. Can this be attributed to him missing preseason? Given the run he has had in the side and the fact there wasnt much of preseason for everyone else, I doubt it.

He has been a good servant but it maybe time to move him on while we still can get some money for him.

I posted last night that I was delighted with the point, a point which I certainly did NOT expect.

Credit to the players for nullifying the threat of Man Utd,and carrying out the 'Game plan' with resilience and determination.

All things considered, a very good result.

It's interesting that on Saturday we treated Fulham as if they were Man Utd with a very negative cagey performance and yet, against United, we showed a bit more adventure, and with some better finishing could have even got all 3 points.

Another good showing from our defenders!

He gets a lot of stick from Palace fans but as far as left backs go, we could do a lot, lot worse. There's a reason he's almost certainly leaving in the summer for a Champions League club & he won't be easy to replace. Good job we brought Mitchell through.

Really good left backs are fairly scarce beasts. When he leaves we will probably miss him at some point next season - unless we can get a decent new one to give Mitchell competition and cover.

Nor did I,had us down to lose by at least 3-0,so a fantastic result and almost certain that we are safe this season.
